I'm actually Schneider's rookie of the year. Now I'm a top ten finalist for Truckload Carriers Association's Top Rookie, a nationwide contest. Winner will be announced Friday 24th. I'll let you know the results once I know. First place or 10th place, the prize is pretty cool.
I walked into the OC in Edwardsville today and was told I was a celebrity there. HAHA.

I should be there. I'm a Mexican look-a-like and I'll probably be running around wearing Schneider gear.

Schneider is actually growing a lot this year. There is an addition of 3300 new trucks to the fleet. Yes, some of the older trucks are leaving, but the fleet in the end will still be +3300 than it was at the beginning of the year. Pay is not bad over here. Just to give you an idea, I average around $700 a week and I only work Monday thru Friday for the most part. Talking with drivers from other Mega Carriers, a lot of them are lucky to make $200 -$300. The office staff, I feel, is very easy to speak with and are willing to listen to the drivers. Like the commercials on XM, you are not a number to the office and maintenance staff. After 2 weeks in the company, everybody in the office and shop in Edwardsville knew and greeted me by my name when I came in. Schneider is a great company to work for. They actually look after the drivers, instead of just the bottom dollar. I highly recommend Schneider for both new and experienced drivers.

 

Not leaving, just have to go see doctor on Monday and hope to be cleared and back in Green Bay next week, that is if SNI will let me transfer to the Van side, its been 2 weeks and my dbl hasnt gotten the ok yet for me to transfer.

 

Awesome, so your the other driver who was nominated (was told only 2 SNI drivers were nominated). I unfortunately didn't make the finals. I did get a couple laminated "Truckings Top Rookie of the Year Nominee" certificates though. I wish ya the best of luck, they have a hell of a top prize. The finalists get a nice little something as well.

 

Any intermodal guys on here? I'm wondering how large of a pay cut I'd get by switching over. After having 6 days off and having a hell of a time with some friends (party bus and bar hopping) I realize I'm missing out on the best parts of my life and want to be home more often. Decisions... Decisions...

Right around $400 for each week. This week is going to be similar yet again because my truck was in the shop and I keep having extended waits because planners keep assigning me loads that have obscenely longs waits to pickup/deliver with runs that are just long enough to avoid getting short haul pay. I've had several times over the past 4 weeks where I was sent to get a load that wasn't even scheduled by the shipper to be loaded until the next day. Forcing me to sit for 12+ hours with nothing but a little bit of detention. Almost everything has become a live load/unload on both ends. I've had several weeks where I have 2-3 days of the week that I only cover 30-40 miles.

I've found that the Load Ready date/time they added to WorkFlow is generally not even close to reality. It's becoming more and more common to find that Appointment times or dates for deliveries seem to be just randomly selected by whoever put the load together. It's as if the people who assemble these assignments don't even bother to check if a customer is even open on a day that they put in as having a live unload. How hard is it to pick up a phone and make sure the appointment time you send to a driver is an actual appointment? If I call in to OPs they are going to just say well the assignment says that's the time so it must be right.

I liked working for Schneider but I'm seriously starting to think it may not work out. I want to do Flatbed in reality, Schneider was just going to be a place to get my first 2 years before going with a Flatbed company closer to home. I'm all for enjoying my job and I definitely do, but in the end the only reason I am really here is for the paycheck.
