What is the story on the 800 mile guarantee?

The 800 mile guarantee is if you are ever hung out over the weekend and do not get home. There are stipulations of course, it has to be because of a shipper problem or recieving a work assignment that does not really route you to the house correctly considering time, ect. I was "hung-out" over a weekend in WVA due to really bad fog/weather once, I was told that situation did not qualify for the 800 mile thing. I was brand new at the time and did not really question it. The work assignment was designed to get me through the house that weekend, I just did not feel safe driving through what was then unfamiliar mountains, in very dense fog.

Anyone else care to chime in a bit more on this one?- I don't come across this situation any more in diff div.

They use the 800 rule lot in the glass division. Say you get a 600 mile load on Friday delivering Monday, you will get paid 800 miles for that trip. That's why your weekend loads are usually very good.
But here's where they get you. You can pick up a load on Thursday that delivers on Monday and it's 800 miles. You get to the consigne Friday night and sit all weekend. You will get no extra pay.

lets say you are dispatched on a load that is less than 800 miles that DOES NOT get you home for the weekend and is less than 800 miles mt and loaded miles total, as long as you made the 1st del of the week on time, (10 am or at designated appointment time if pre 10am) they pay you 800 miles for the load: ie: mt/lded miles for the load you have for the weekend to be delivered on monday is 567 miles, you get paid 800 for it. 233 miles extra basically.

1944 / 4 tarps this week. started week with 350 short haul, granite sh*&%$ to portage, in that was too far oor to take home but was told to go ahead home with it because mpg was outstanding and cheaper to get me home than to pay me 800 miles on a 259 paid mile run. so again for the nay sayers when it comes to mpg............well i'll let you think for yourself. my fingers hurt as much as ive typed about good mpgs. lol sarge

I've given up on mpg lol... Did great my first 1/4, but now the temperature is ridiculous and I'm idling way to much. Real disheartening when you want to get good mpg, but have to sacrifice it to be able to stand being in the truck. If only I wasn't a red headed step child of maverick, and stuck in this POS truck. :-*

when I was in an 07, i'd idle with the air full blast front and back until it got pretty cool in there. then i'd plug in one of those 12V fans you see at the truck stop, clipped to a cabinet over my feet, pointed at me. and shut the truck off.

about the time it started getting stuffy again, it was time to get up. Granted, this was in >85* weather, anything over that...it idled.

drive sensibly, and you'll have no problem offsetting your idling with the trick above. I maintained a constant 6.9-7.0 with that trick, in two different 07's.

    and I didn't drive slow.
