I see where for some companies they will hire between say age 23 to age 60.
Does anyone know of a company that will hire fresh out of school drivers age 70?
Would be nice to know before I go to school.....
I don't actually trust recruiters answers from reading the boards here...<G>
    Thanks
    mary

70 is a bit late to be starting out. A lot of insurance companies wouldn't touch a newbie at 70.

But, to the contrary, I have seen a plenty of 70 year olds at the fuel island.

I saw an older gentleman at the fuel island at the Bosselman in Grand Island a couple of months back. I asked him how old he was and he said he was 74. Runs dedicated run for his son on a dry van. He told me that he enjoys it, runs only 9 hours a day, 5 days a week and the kids do all the maintenance on the truck and trailer, his son also takes care of all the paperwork. He reckoned it was a good way to keep fit and out of trouble. His rig was good looking!

I am sure if a 70 year old wants to give it a go, there is plenty of opportunity, but remember, trucking is especially hard on them older bones......

On the other hand, I have heard of many horrific accidents recently involving older truck drivers, for various reasons. Being older certainly do not disqualify any person to operate an 18-wheeler, but I am sure that statistics would indicate an increased risk here.

Personally I would speak with the recruiters and see what they say. Then, if you are able to, speak with the drivers of the same company and ask them how closely what the recruiters told them matches reality. This will likely give you an indication of the truthfulness of a particular recruiter.

Due to circumstances beyond my control...years ago working, having kids, living in Hawaii (not much space there.. <G>) I put off getting a cdl until now.
I think I'll just call a few companies and see what they say.
I did join a gym to get more or less back in shape, if nothing else, I do feel better.
    thanks
