Hello TTR! Been browsing the forums for a few hours now, figure I should post my original intention. I drove in the oil-fields of NM for a short while years back and want to get my CDL back. The open road is a-callin'. I have found a few schools in the area: Wolf in Schaumburg, Eagle in Rockford, and Star. I was hoping to get opinions from those that have been. Thanks!!

I dont know firsthand what your experience will be with these guys I'm going list cuz I never went to them but what I do know is these schools are acknowledged and respected by a LOT of companies. Eagle training lake in the hills, progressive Chicago and Lansing, and premier in joliet. Hope this helps to start your research .

Thanks slapshot! The more threads I read, the bigger the "must research" list grows, HA!

only in day two at eagle (in kenosha) but seems alright so far if you need any first hand info about them i'll be more then happy to give it or get it for you

They are located near you and are actually the people that HAD STARTED Eagle Driver Training.
I will PM you the owner's name and contact information.
I have known them for years and they are honest decent people that want students to succeed.
I am going to send my wife to their school when the time is right....
SpiritCDL Thanks this. -
Thanks for the PM JD. Prometheuss, did you get your permit before starting or are you getting it through eagle? How many people are in your class? How is the yard, trucks?
-
i'm getting my permit through them so it's mostly book work this week
theres only two other people in the class with me so its really small but its kinda nice when you dont understand something we just stop and work it out so you understand it then keep going
havent really seen the truck(s) or yard yet that will be after i get my premit but instructor did say he was going to bring it over this week so i'll let you know on that one
i have a few minor issues at this point but then again i'm not the most patience person so it very well could be me
we shall see how it pans out it is after all only my second day
also like slapshort said they do have a school in lake in the hills that might be closer for you and get that post count up so you can pm -
Guys, it doesn't ever hurt to get your permit ahead of time. WHY NOT??

When I took my crappy CDL school in 1989, I was the only one in class that already had his permit and I went out driving
the very first day while everyone else had to go to the DMV....I'm not sure thats the way it is anymore but if you get your permit ahead of time and pass it BEFORE starting school - isn't that just one less thing to worry/deal with? -
That's what I'm thinking JD. The first time I got my CDL I studied on my own and passed easily. Since my experience is only with straight-trucks I figure maybe that might get me a little more time to practice in the yard...hmmm

I haven't done a lot of checking around but was very impressed with Spirit and will be starting there in a couple weeks. I went down to look at the school yesterday and it is obvious that they really care that you do well. To the OP, maybe we can be classmates.
