I did a little looking and couldn't find anything but there may already be another thread on this.

For some reason, even with the CB turned off, every time I hit the key, it sends a surge of power to the CB and it will turn on for a split second. I keep it turned off because I wanted to avoid frying it but I'm afraid that is what has happened. I'm not worried about the CB, that can be replaced. The truck is a 2008 Kenworth T800. Not sure if that helps any but what usually causes this? What can I do to keep the truck from powering up the CB when I hit the key??

Disconect the power wires. I have the same issue with my 29 in my Western Star, been doing it for yrs and haven't had any issues with the radio

Depending upon how old your CB is, the dynamotor supply for the TX high voltage may be spinning up when you hit the PTT. When I got my Novice in 1962, my dad & I built a CW rig for his car. When we wanted to switch over to TX, we had to give it a couple of seconds to spin up to warm the tubes (40M). Until he re-wired the power leads, though, the dynamotor would spin up even without the rest of the rig being on.
I s'pose it's unlikely that's what's going on here, though. It's more likely your mic is actually switching your landing lights or sumpin'. I concur with Jersey John; sounds like the most comprehensive solution.

It may be what is called "load dump" in the automotive industry. In 12V system, load switching like starting can cause up to 60V spikes. More for 24v systems.
