My 2007 Volvo has this horrible shaking on the passenger side steer tire.
so far I have replaced the front shocks, kingpin bushings, did an alignment, and put two brand new balanced steer tires.
Yet the problem is still there. The worst is around 45mph. Shakes so bad my hood mirror fell off. Took it to the Volvo shop was told to do another balancing job, and if that doesn't help replace the wheel hub. Anyone have any ideas about the problem? The tires were put on and balanced less a week ago. I really don't want to keep throwing money away. Any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

The wheel is not centering on the hub. There is a product called Tru Balance, it consists of sleeves that go over the lug studs and center the wheel until it is tightened down. www.tru-bal.com

I know if the mechanics do not put the rim back on properly it will shake like that. Lazy mechanics will drive that first lug all the way tight without properly aligning the whole rim causing the shake.
-
When you put the new tires on,where they put on the same rims?
Simple test, put the left wheel on the rightside and visa versa.
If the shaking is still on the same side,it is the hub that has a problem.
If the shaking shifts to the leftside.........bad rim. -
Had the same problem with a Freightliner a few years ago. After a lot of repairs and head scratching turned out to be the sleeper mounts were worn out on one side.

Check wheel fit to hub pilot.
Check wheel bearings.
Check for excessive runout of tread face on rotation.
Brake drum out of round and interfering with brakes shoes during rotation (brake not applied).
Brake drum out of balance.
A spin balancer helps in these situations as the whole rotating assembly can be spun up and balanced on the truck. It will also show the tech any untrueness during rotation by the balancer skipping on the tire while spinning. -
I agree with daf10pacar do as he said..that is the best way to find out..

does your truck have front air bags??? if so ,leave everything else alone,,,,,dont spend your money on 100 times balancing and hub whatever is there, check proper air bags inflation (preasure ,try find any possible leak) and air bags height !!! also do the same in rear suspension,,,good luck
-
in add...thats what i had in my truck, find 3 leaks on air supply lines-fixed,,,front air ride height adjusted- fixed,,,,only thing left is rear suspension, noone can find why preasure on rear air bags is to low ( rear is kind of too soft),,,i changed 4 air ride valves --they improve it just for a little while and then air bags are soft again,,,,so still trying to find what is that thing which push proper preasure to rear air bags (through air ride valve),,,,,,hood and other things shaking is almost gone but still looking for complete fix.........
