i had been told by several sources that there were some companies, like food companies, that hire new drivers, a couple of other companies had told me they look at new drivers,

I guess all you can do is just to keep knocking on doors. I would look at construction firms as well, they seem to give new drivers a shot better than OTR firms.
Building supply companies are always looking. It may not be with a trailer sometimes, but the experience is what counts.russellrig Thanks this. -
thanks, im now going after everything to get experience

russell, try Harland Veinotte in Morrisburg, Tibbs in Kemptville, Trowbridge in Nepean, Triple K in Ottawa, Kriska in Prescott or Cruikshank construction. These are just off the top of my head and all within an hour of you. Keep beatin on their doors. Show them that you are/will be dedicated. It will happen for you, don't get discouraged. You do have to bide your time though and realize that you have to take the $h!T jobs in order to get that experience. Remember, every one of us on here started out in the very same spot that your are in!! Good luck.

Speaking as a driver based in uk (at the moment) i can understand the frustration of gaining your licence then finding no work, its the same here for newly qualified drivers, the companies blame insurance issues stopping them employing anyone with less than 2yrs experience,TRUTH is normally something different and as per usual it involves MONEY ,here they will use "agency drivers" costing very little in comparison to employing someone direct, and if you turn out to be a "driver" they may in time employ you,if you turn out to be a "screwdriver" they can just tell the agency your not wanted back ,without worries of unfair dismissal or contract problems ,failng that you have to go and work for one of the "BIG BOYS" to gain some experience ,this normally involves being ########## about from pillar to post paid minimum wages normally until you've had enough then leave only to be replaced by another driver in the same position as you find yourself in now,but if you are detemined enough to get on the road ,keep trying anything ,just get a foot in the door and have a chance to prove your worth,, it will happen !!just remember it may take time though ,, good luck anyway you choose to go ..

I am a driver out of Vancouver BC and the references to Paki this or East Indian that, make me sick. Why don't you pure white bread crackers smarten up !!! You guys make me sick, I have worked for some great Indian outfits that treated me very well. I have worked for two and only two "white" companies that shorted me and treated me like dirt. If you want to be prejudiced go live in the US. This racism doesn't fly with me or any of my white and Indian friends. Paki companies ?! really? go sit on a sharp stump somewhere.
