Just so everyone knows: Scheider's contract was cut in half this past week here in Victoria, TX. Half the drivers were laid off or relocated if possible.

Yikes! I hope Rockdoctor escaped the hatchet. There still seems to be plenty of work in West Texas, so if any of you were affected by this ..... don't give up.

“The Achilles’ heel we have is finding a qualified workforce,” said Byron Sprawls, South Texas area operations manager for Weatherford Fracturing Technologies, which recently hired 100 workers at its San Antonio office. The company, a unit of Weatherford International, provides hydraulic fracturing services and is looking to fill another 100 jobs.:biggrin_1square:

Weatherford will hire all of them probably, most of the "pipeline" goes through the Victoria area on the way to Port Lavaca, then as well I found Giddings with nearly as many business offices there ~ both of which swamped the San Antonio Express-News for online lisitngs .... seems one has to have the physical paper to do any good

    Is a vacuum-truck same thing as frac-water tanker?....:biggrin_1square2:

Weatherford is hiring for frac crews which are a completely different kind of job than pulling a tanker. I've done both and working on a frac crew can be extremely difficult physical work. I work 16-17 hours a day. Dad that we rig down and move you will swing a sledge hammer and pick up heavy four inch iron for 10-12 hours straight. If its really hot outside like over 100 degrees we will take a few ten minute breaks if it's cool we don't stop till we're done. On easy days there is lots of cleaning and maintenance to do. There's is not a day that I don't come home soaked in sweat and covered in sand and grease and diesel. Driving a tanker is like being a door greeter at Walmart compared to working on a frac crew.

Why was the contract cut in half? Did another company bid lower?

Thanks everyone for the concern. I was out of town during all this and just got back into Victoria last night. What a bad time to be on vacation as I had to get some of the info through the rumor mill! I appreciate all the PMs asking about my situation and offering to help me find new work.

I am fine and I will be keeping my job with Schneider here in Victoria. I can't say the same for a lot of good people. The account is being cut in half and a lot of drivers will not be able to stay on this account due to their lack of time on the account. I had trouble talking to some drivers today because I feel bad for them as they did nothing wrong. As you know the account had grown to almost 200 drivers and drivers were being trained the day before this announcement came so it must have been a real bummer to management.

    SO WHAT HAPPENED...

A big Australian energy and mining conglomerate bought out half of the operation a few weeks back. Some info came to their attention and the Australian company decided they would handle and manage the trucking for their half of the oil (condensate). They have hired some other carriers who underbid Schneider. We have been told to expect to see several third party carriers on the property soon.

Schneider will continue to handle the other 50% of the oil (condensate) but the driver base is being cut to just under 100 drivers for now. Drivers who don't make the cut are being offered other accounts within Schneider. No one is being fired or laid off, but some are leaving for various reasons.

I would say for now, it will probably be difficult to land an energy job with Schneider anytime soon, at least until this ripple of drivers have been dealt with.

i was woundering when this was going to happen! the oil and gas ind. is a diffrent breed if your going to stay in it get use to moving alot or hire with a company were you want home to be and travel with them!! been in and out of oil and gas since 1982 and traveled all over. it maybe hot in one area for six months to a year and then you gotta up and move 600miles away!! its alot like trucking not in one place for too long and it is slowing alittle im starting to see a few rigs get staked out in the wheeler area.

Looks like the same may happen tommorow to the BP Account in Corpus. We have a conference call at 1400. A lot of drivers are sweating it out. I am already checking other companies out. Wish us luck. I will post as soon as I know. Stubby

Any talk of Schneider sending more people to ND with the loss of the TX accounts? For crude or any other hauling for that matter.

WOW....Victoria and now possibly Corpus? Just keep your heads up! Everything happens for a reason...a better opportunity may present itself.
