I'm thinking about applying for a passcard before I leave for DS. That way I should have it in hand by the time I finish my 4-6 week training. Is it worth it? I'm lined up for USA, but I'm talking to Central Refrigerated. I want to be versatile to (hopefully) improve my mileage, but if it really won't amount to much it may not be worthwhile. I'm on a very thin budget until I start drawing the training checks, so coming off the $55 for the passcard is a major decision. My only thing about waiting is that I'll be on the road a lot and may have a hard time getting it done after training. So, is the ability to take loads to Canada and Mexico worth getting the passcard?

I think he means Passport. If you have the money, do it. They last ten years and you never know if you will need it. It can't hurt, right?

A FAST card is specifically for commercial drivers and gets you through the border quicker.

There is also a Passcard, which is only good for land/sea travel between US and Canada/Mexico. It is $30 plus some fee, whereas the Passport (book) is around $120.

Technically it is a passport card.

    FAST is a carrier deal.

How does the twic card fit into this?

    Do you need all three?

Twic is something used at ports and some others for commercial.

Only used mine once in 3 years.

I was warned away from the twic card... a driver said he got stuck shuttling trailers from the secure area of the port to those who didn't have twic... wasted day moneywise.

You may want to check and make sure you are eligible to even go to Canada. I can visit, but not drive a big truck there. Why? Because I was arrested for DUI in 1984. Was never convicted of it, but because of the arrest I am not eligible.

I got the card thinking the same as you are and it now just sits in my wallet as a second form.of ID. Guess I can always take a cruise and use it.

    RollingTide Thanks this.
