Think of it as a 3 day long job interview lol. Seriously though, its a lot of info about the company, signing your name a lot, you will do a physical and such the first day. Practice the duck walk a few times. You will also have to pass a road test. What are you looking to do? Otr, dedicated?
USX drivers...how's your day??

How is my day?...well feeling a bit poorer. I just plunked down $4.3k cash to the Trucking Driving School I had picked out here in Southern CA, so I am officially enrolled now and will start class this Monday Aug 27th
. My DOT physical will be on Thursday & I take my written test for all endorsement's (double, triple,Haz-Mat) and my driving permit on Friday.
For those of you that have read my previous post know however that after the 4 weeks of schooling I won't be looking to start with USX until end of year or first part of January. I bring this up because I wanted to share some info that although probably won't apply to most it is still good to know.
Because there will be a gap between my schooling and applying which most companies after 30 or 60 days have passed would require you to take a refresher course which at my school would mean another $1.5k. Well after talking with 3 different USX recruiters including the one that works directly with my school....I'm here to tell you that USX actually allows up to 18 months since your schooling to be hired on without requiring a refresher course.
So if you find yourself in a position like me where I need to go to school now before I move to another state later...then this is a HUGE perk that USX offers...or should I say allows. I know we talk about the usual pluses about working for this company but given the right situation this could also be a big plus as it is for me.
I hope that some of you will at least remember this in case someone gives a specific scenario that involves a gap between graduating from truck driving school and available to start work. Again I do realize that most want to jump right in and start making money...I do as well...but can't do to my situation. I'm sure at some point someone else might be in the same boat as me and I want to make sure we are all aware of another reason why USX would be a great company for that individual.
The DicemanNoCoCraig, Jeremyc and DaReallyst Thank this. -
We use to do the 9 hour driving thing but on the reefer board it is a lot of live loads and unloads so we have found we just run as hard as we can and we never seem to run out of hours. It seems that we are always saying "when we get to xxxxxx (wherever) we will need a rest, then the delivery appointment gets pushed out enough to get hours back and we keep rolling. I am down to 6 hours on my 70 right now but I only need to drive two hours tonight to get to the consignee and then we have 14 hours to go 200 miles to the next shipper and I get back 11 1/2 hours tomorrow night.....and so we roll
-
Thanks Craig, we are off home time both with fresh 70's
Ready to run. Atlanta load headed to Texas today. -
As a solo driver, running as hard as I can always pays off when my 70 is low. It's the short days that do me in. -
Sitting in North Cove NC, trailer was supposed to be pre-loaded but got here and they said that since the empty they had was dirty, we had to grab it and take it across the street to get it washed out. The trailer has been sitting here since 07/31 and tagged not to use until cleaned. So now they are loading the trailer we brought and here we sit. It is stuff like this that would kill me if I was solo.
transportHER Thanks this. -
Sitting at Pilot Sac. PU after midnight in San Laendro. Then a long run to PA. We are both low on hours, but this little wait will give us the hrs to deliver on time.

Been to SanLaendro and had a run to Dallas from there. Where are you headed next?

Well then this will make your day...my day went like so...had to find an mty, every time I would message my fm, it would take her 45 min to an hour to respond. started my day at 6 am, drive to my receiver from yesterday since it was 2 miles away and they wouldn't release one because it was friday. Waited again, went to kohls, had to figure out where in desoto tx the warehouse was since there were no directions on file. Another 45 min for that answer. Then another 45 min after I hooked up to get load info. Got to shipper and they won't load me because I'm late. Got there at 2 pm for 11 am appt. So, another hour for them to figure out they want me to go to clorox and pick up. Fine. Hook back up to trlr, fight dallas traffic, get there to be told the load doesn't load til tomorrow. So, messaged my fm, told them I was going to irving terminal because I only had an hour left on my 14, and am I supposed to pick this up in the am. I've been here for almost 2 hours and no response from them at all. And forget calling. All day I was on hold for a total of 3 hours trying to get info.

yep, I have no idea what the deal was with response times for both the phone and driver tech today, It was pathetic. It was so bad the weekend, night crew tonight is way better
RebelChick, tell your FM you expect layover pay for today and get a layover authorization number
