There is an epidemic of West Nile virus infections in Texas, but be aware that the threat of infection exists in almost every state. Some estimates have 45,000 people infected in the Houston area. Dallas county is using aerial spraying to kill mosquitos. It is true that 1 in 150 people infected with the virus will contract the disease - this sounds like a small chance but the disease can cause paralysis, coma, and kidney failure. Take great care to avoid mosquito bites. I'm stating the obvious but "Don't Sleep With Your Windows Open!"

The stuff they sell us to eat at truckstops are more deadly than West Nile.

We were co-managing a retirement community a few years ago and had a lady move in just about the time we quit. She I guess started acting weird, this was a prissy lady, came in to breakfast half undressed, loss of some body movements, mumbling, etc., they thought she had had a stroke. It turned out she had contracted West Nile virus and ended up in the hospital if very serious condition, kidney failure, coma. She came out of it, but I don't know how much lasting damage had been done.

It was pretty dry that year so we thought no way with the mosquito, but learned from a friend that the less water there is in a stream or pond the more nutrient rich it is and that helps the mosquitoes even more.

That is another reason why truckers do not take baths.

I asked the clerks at the OKC Petro why they sell so many useless chatchkeys and no insect repellent.
