I know this question has been on hear a number of times but I am new, i was wonder about C R England and Werner. I have been asked by both of them to go to there orientations and i was just wondering if being a student that wants alot of time working and NOT at home if these companies would work for me. I am on my last week of truck driving school at southern state tda and I am 25 with no family looking to get miles and money.

I can't talk about Werner, but I do know a little about C.R. England. I started there about 13 years ago. I went through their school and training program. I have no problems recommending them for starting out especially for someone with "no ties". I was a company driver for years and then became a trainer. I know things have changed there somewhat. Things were changing as I was leaving, but I did very well as a trainer. I know some of the trainers were only doing it for the money, but I was fortunate and got a good one. After training for a while, I leased a truck and did very well also, but I was running 5 to 8 k miles a month. I had a lot of students that got on my truck that had no idea what trucking was about and could not handle being out for weeks at a time, but that doesn't sound like a problem for you.. I left because they had difficulty getting me to my hometown and an opportunity came up I thought I should't pass up. Hope that helps.

England will attempt to force the lease on you...don't do it.

Swift, Prime or Schnieder are slightly better choices.
They're very well adapted for driver turn-over.

England is OK until they hook you, and then they'll want you to lease/purchase. If you refuse, then you're punished by not getting the miles. It's a bit of scam, and there is currently legal action against them for it.

Werner is lower pay/low benefits, but the miles can be there, or not.

That said, the LEAST of your problems is what company you choose, but rather making it through that first year of service to them. It only varies between starter companies by degree. I prefer Swift because they have a terminal near my home, and they have terminals all over the country. That's important for a Newb.

Do some legwork. There are more than 10 trucking companies in the United States. Take a look around in your own backyard. You might be very surprised at what you discover. Good Luck.
