What does running hard mean to you?

Coast to Coast, I'd have to lay down twice. Usually about 5 hours each. I'm not going to drive too tired. Or take anything more than what's legal. If I have to fight it, I pull over. To heck with the appointment. That can always be changed.
But, your right. You don't see many "coast to coast turn arounds" anymore.

 

Running hard is passing a rest area when you need to take a dump.

 

If the truck you're driving is fitted with satelite tracking, by a safety department that tracks you and compares your tracking information to your logs (Or your running electronic logs), then I doubt you'll ever have the opportunity to see a 4,500 mile week. Much less, a 6,000 mile week. And after 6 months to a year, your body will grow accustom to running legal. Making a high mileage week, almost impossible.

But that's no big deal really. Running legal seems to be the status quo now a days. Just the mere mention of running more than 11 hours at a time, will get you bashed. Working hard used to be something everyone respected. Now it's something, most people look down on. Probably because the BS they spoon feed new drivers in school, safety classes etc etc etc.

My arguement has always been, that if HOS are based on trust, then why the need for HOS? The trust part comes from a DOT officer that gave me a HOS ticket one night. I asked him, "How do you know that we're sleeping and getting the rest we need to perform our safety sensitive jobs when we're in our bunks?"...... He said "We trust that you do"... In which I responded. "Well then, if it all boils down to you you guys "trusting us" to get the rest we need, when we need it, what good are lines on a piece of paper?"

And of course his reply was "I don't write the laws, I just enforce them"..... When they can't answer a question with any legitimacy, that's give you that line. A one size fits all.

 

i see several coast to coast runs out of the seattle area posted all the time but the rates suck so what is the point of taking them

 

My opinion of running hard is driving before 5am and / or after 9pm, driving more than 450 miles or 8 hours per day, or driving on a Saturday or Sunday. I try to avoid running hard if I can help it.

 

Running hard is thinking you took your vitamin but instead took a viagra!

 

And can't figure out why "it" won't go away.

Like most have replied already. Running hard to me is running as hard as legally, safely and physically as possible. I'm hopeing to get into the reefer OO biz this fall. My plan is to hit it as hard as I can for the first 1-2 years. Fortunately, I have family and friends all over the country and I'm single with no kids. So I wouldn't care too much where I have to spend my 34 hours at. I'm just hoping to stay loaded and keep them 18 a rollin! (That's my pipe dream, anyway).
