and my other half wonders why I don't whine when he says it's bedtime. Rest and sleep come first, everything else can wait!!!!!!
-
All I can say is log it legal and get rest!
-
His log is probably legal. It was his nature of only sleeping 5 1/2 hours at night. There are many times I can only sleep 5 hours even though the law says to take a 10 hour break. It does not say I have to sleep 10 hours.
There are times that I am more tired after I have been home versus on the road. The sleeping hours change from my driving hours time. This has an effect on many drivers. -
As a shourt haul driver sometimes it is easy to ignore sleep in order to spend time with family. I'm home 10+ hours a day but i find it hard to get a lot of sleep because i want to spend time with my wife and 2 month old daughter.
-
I wonder then how they proved he did not get the proper rest? I would say from him clocking in before he recieved a 10 hour break or whatever the Canadian law is.
-
I wondered that too. The article does not say anything about log violating.
I was only referring to the sleep hours. Surprisingly there was no mention that he was not taking the proper breaks, just not getting adequate sleep. -
had dutifully put in long hours for his employer, making deliveries in Red Deer and then in Edmonton on a daily basis.
That statement makes me think they found out he was working long hours and was proven to be working over the hours of service.
What many drivers don't understand , when you see the article say "fatigue" sleep deprivation they usually gather that from auditing the logs for the last 30 days to last 6 months. Usually I will add, they can find out other ways (cell phones records is one).
Just my opinion, not really sure in this case, but I am leaning I am right
I am female you know.
-
I agree that they would check all that you said. However, the article says nothing about violating the logs which I am sure they would definately know.
As far as deliveries in Edmonton and Red Deer. They are only about 90 miles apart. Not a great distance.
To some people, working more than 8 hours a day is considered working long hours.
I think there is more to the story than what was printed.
By the way. How many times has a trucker had an accident with a fatality and the news media has not made a big deal about the smallest log violation? -
this sounds like me in the future, im only 24 in the best health been driving 4 years now, when driving long distance i do want to fall asleep and here in alberter highways u have to drive so far till u reach a resting area, the reason y i hardly rest is because of getting paid by the mile.
