    John,
I love to read your post and how you manage the process and keep your attitude positive!! What was your total mileage for the week??

This is the start of week 3 of school and finishing up in the classroom tomorrow (Tuesday). We were suppose to start driving on the range today but was pushed back 2 days for paving. We will get those 2 days back by staying out on the range for 2 Fridays. 1 more day and I finally get to get in a truck!!!! I'm going to get my application resubmitted and see if I can get a pre-hire as soon as possible. I would love to know that is where I'm going and not have to worry about it throughout the entire school time.

    Have a great week!!

    flyingmusician Thanks this.

3590 for the paycheck.....pay period runs noon tuesday to noon tuesday and while i could probably get the little 200 i'm starting with tonight in by cutoff not going to rush to try to do it.....another thing you learn and get into the hang of is managing how many trips you scan per pay period once you're toward the end of the period and you can manipulate the size of the check if you need to do so.....by only going out tonight at 2300, that puts me on (most likely) a short week, so i'll prbably hold that trip tonight until wednesday and then scan it so it's on next week probably short check.

patience grasshopper lol that's how i manage everything......i have the patience of any 3 men and you have to have it....along with a strong analytical mind and the ability to plan and think on the fly.....so many things in this business are fluid and change rapidly and you have to be able to present several different scenarios in your mind to any given day or trip and 'if this or this happen, how am i going to handle it?'....case in point last week's first two runs.....do i sit at th elowes in fayetteville and get a 10 or run on down to wytheville out of hours for the next pickup? two different outcomes and both of them have a bearing on how i run the load after that.....in that case best to just get the 10 and then run.....i've been in similar situations where the best option (only option) was to go on in and do the pickup and then wait to run.....and often scenarios like that involve running a split log as well to make it work and get on-time delivery or pickup or both.

a sense of humor helps some as well but patience and flexibility and knowing your options and the most likely outcome for any given set of options are the big things....sooooo many things out here you have NO control over that you have to be patient.....and no matter how rude or obnoxious the shippers or receivers are, always be patient with them and kill them with kindness......

people with no patience or sense of humor generally don't last long out here

I'm going to show some of Sherman's and your post on here to the others in my class. You don't get this kind of education sitting in the school.

I'm really grateful to you both as well as others for sharing so much of your lives!!

you're going to be amazed the number of things you're going to learn they didn't teach you in school hehehehe no matter how good the school, no matter how long the course, there just isn't enough time.....you'll learn more the first week out with your trainer than you did the whole 8 weeks there....but you'll have a much better foundation that most by being in an 8 week course as opposed to a 3 week cdl mill

Hi everyone, I hope you are all safe out there.
I've been in contact with an EPES recruiter and will possibly go to orientation soon if all my paperwork checks out.
    A little about me.
I graduated from an Epes approved school in July. (Trans Tech).
Clean MVR, stable work history, no criminal record.
I've been following this thread and have a few questions.
You drivers seem mostly happy with the company from what I've read so far.
The recruiter told me the average miles are around 2100-2300 per week, is that accurate?
They try to get you home at least one day every weekend.
If for some reason I really didn't worry about home time, will they keep you running?
Could I stay out more than one week?
I understand training is 6 weeks then out solo.
Can you tell me about orientation?
I read somewhere on this forum that the road test is pretty tough, is that true?
Any info you can give me is greatly appreciated.
I'm not a job hopper, so when I go to work for a company I will try to stay for a long time.

    Thanks for any replies

2400 miles is avg, I like fly and dinky don't settle fot avg. 2400 is on low side. They want you if surprised it be a good thing. Run hard miles will be there.
Yes you can work continuous if you care. Lots of weekend work if you choose to work. They are a great place to work!
Ornt is not bad (but been 8 years since been through it) . Road test is strick but not that hard. Few no nos that are auto fail but they should be every where else! Take your time, relax and goal! You will be fine!

Sent you a pm with that. 10 speeds. And going into the training program they know you will not shift perfectly! Not fair to expect so much going in. The ones I pmed you show if you are safe or not. Hope you understand not giving some info in open forum.
