So I attended orientation last week everything was fine until the physical. Passed everything fine but at the end of the day my recruiter came to me and said the doc required I get a sleep apnea study. They let me complete te orientation then I returned home. I went yesterday for my Evaluation. And was confirmed I need a sleep study I am waiting for appointment confirm for that. So question is if I do have it and need a CPAP will Knight still hire me. Also if they do how do you power your machines since they don't allow install of power inverters. Never thought there would be so many obstacles to get going
Does knight hire drivers with sleep apnea ?

there are newly mandated guv regulations. regarding sleep apnea. you might want to start studying those regs. cuz it could decide your future.
just out of curiosity though. how are you to be determined that you need a sleep study or that you have apnea. -
I was nervous due to my size I carry a few extra pounds and my neck being over the 17" they say is a sign. Other than that I had none of the signs that suggest it. However after getting my evaluation and speaking with the speacilist it's more due to your anatomy in your throat. I was told that my airway is significantly compromised due to tonsils and Uvula(the thing that hangs down in back of throat) I will be doing a home sleep study "much cheaper" within te next couple of days.
I was also told that many people do not know they have it because like me they show no signs. I'm really hoping I don't have it I guess I'll know within a day or 2.Last edited: Aug 29, 2012

snowwy,
please post those new sleep apnea regs, if you have the link.
thanksRickG Thanks this. -
to the best of my knowledge if a driver has sleep apnea, he can get this machine, mask, etc & sleep with it; if they refuse to hire u beause of it i think that would be a discrimination act & would cost them lots of $$$ if they did; don't quote me on any of it, like i said this is to the best of my knowledge

I believe thats in your brain. I think its a Uvula.
-
I cant imagine it being discrimination.
-
They dont hire Type I (insulin dependent) diabetics do they?
-
Wouldnt they be unable to obtain a medical card, making them ineligible for the job? Federal laws?
-
I believe you are correct LOL
