If the wiring is getting hot and melting then there is a ground problem with that plug. That plug should be rated @ 30 amps, which is enough to run any 12v appliance made.

I got a fridge from Home Depot complete with freezer and it works great in my Freightliner. We took the cabinet out of the Passenger side of the sleeper and it fit right in the hole.

I should say that I have an APU complete with an 1800w power inverter that was installed as part of the APU package. I have to keep the thing truned up to keep it from freezing my waters.

I would have that plug checked out @ a dealer next time I could.....and don't plug anything into it that doesn't have a fuse in the cord.

The truck I owned was a double bunk. A previous owner had taken the mattress out of it, and it made a perfect shelf to hold all kinds of things. Thats where I put my cooler.

Yep.....it's a Century. There are 2 bolts in the floor....and 4 nuts on the back that hold the cabinets in. We just took those out....slid the cabinet out.....wrestled the fridge inside.....and it slid right in....well there is a 4" gap behind....but that will allow better air flow. Even got room on top for my wife to put her toaster oven on top.

No pics at this time.....but next time I go home I'll take some pics.

One of the companies that make these smaller refrigerators has come out with a unit that has a separate freezer compartment complete with it's own door.....this is the unit my wife thought about getting....but it was too tall for her to be able to put the toaster oven on top.

    So where are the pics?

My wife wants a mini fridge and a cooler as well---she thinks we need more space for food so we wont spend so much money at truck stops.
We will be using an inverter.

    Any suggestions?

Are you guys allowed to take the cabinet out of the truck if you are a company driver or are you owner ops?

We were allowed to remove the cabinet. They put it in the shop at the head office. We have a Coleman cooler from T&A and it's super cold - freezes things on the top shelf if they're there long enough. Love it!!
