Interesting discussion between a Brit and a Fin about 6x2 / 6x4

If i was always on hard top or gravel roads, I might consider 6x2. But I get into some stuff occasionally that the twin screw with lockers on both really help. Probably not often enough for some to justify having twin and lockers, but rather have that for the few times a year it happens than not have it and have to get pulled out by a farm tractor. That has happened several times when I had a twin screw and no lockers. Now I have a twin screw with lockers. But I can sure see where a 6x2 would make a lot of sense for many folks. I am surprised it hasn't caught on more.
And the twin screw with lockers hasn't hurt me too bad on fuel mileage. 7.63 mpg lifetime average on the truck so far. -
No, not mine, I found this one on 10-4 magazines site. It's a glider built by Clint Moore out of Kansas City Peterbilt. But it is exactly what I want!

Really only makes sense if half of your miles are empty. Like this one pulling a tanker, only loaded one way!

If you get caught by DOT limping into town the ticket will cost you a lot more than a road call!

in ontario, with new SPIF ( Safe, Productive, Infrastructure-Friendly ) they are banning cab controlled lift axles. They have to be operated from outside of the cab, not accessible to the driver in the cab.
So, these brainiacs have killed this fuel saving idea before it can start.Scania man and fland Thank this. -
Sodrel trucking out of Jeffersonville/Clarksville Indiana uses Macks with a tag axle. Never talked to one of their drivers about it but I see them all the time going up and down the road with the mail.
