any help please 2004 volvo d12d eng. trans.rto-16910c-as2 10 speed auto shift with clutch.problem is the thing won't engage back to second after doing a stop.not all the time the more i drive the more often its doing it .can this be the shifter module getting stuck ,I did look up the shifter module on eaton web site and there's a position sensor part#k-3438 $80 bucks .can this be causing the trans.not to engage into second or drive there's no fault codes on trans. one thing thinking of swapping trans to a 13 speed or 10 manual a call eaton fuller for replacement this is the trans#rtlo-16913a for 13 speed and frs-1610c 10 speed.question is has anybody swap trans.on a volvo with d12d engine and if so what are the results because when i call eaton they don't recommend this swap.because of future electrical problems.I know this is a big job for me this is something I will not due because of all the programming installation is not the issue just programming the ecu's .found a volvo dealer that will do it for 2.500 installation and programming I provide everything trans shift lever.I just need an opinion before I do this and ending up with the same ####.thanks for any advice or help again.

Doesn't really sound like a "Volvo" problem more so than an Eaton problem.

just change the position sensor on the shift module and nothing.can it be the trans.ecm. all I know is that these trans. is coming off fck auto shift,I just want to know if anyone has done this on a volvo with a d12d engine and what are the results.

for anyone with similar issues just fix truck it was the whole shifter.I try to just change that position sensor with no luck went with the cheapest thing first the shifter was giving me no fault codes I did notice it was getting to hot .replace it and all is well again.I will still replace that autoshift in the near future.

how much for the shifter?

I sugest shifter is X-Y actuator. When X ore Y motor fails TCU (box with wires on tranny) may be damaged inside. It is filled with polymer and gard to take apart to fix, so be ready to pay for this box too
