Hey guys I am new to the site and new to all Trucking. Me and the wife were tossing around the thought of opening a small ( very small) bizz either hauling LTL with a 1ton Dodge Dulley and A flat-bed or using the same truck to haul 3-4 car hauler or use the same truck to haul RV's.. I realize there are some that made it work well and some that didn't for whatever reason. ( i've been reading on the site now for awhile ) , anyway this will be a big step for us and negative thoughts are really not needed unless its something I can learn or benefit from. Not tring to be rudd, Just don't want to have to read other peoples failures.
Thanks

Sorry I guess I forgot the question.............
Can you make money in TODAY'S age/economy? -
It is always possible for you to make money. Are you wanting to come into an area and undercut the people already trying to make a living? If so, I am not sure I want to help. But if you are wanting to work hard, advertise, deliver a good product with a good price, then yes. There is always room for someone who is willing to improve the business.
Roadstartwin Thanks this. -
Hey Wooly thanks for the reply. Your question is very legit about undercutting others. NO I am not looking to undercut anybody in this biz or any other for that matter. I currently work for a company that is straight commision and am tired of being undercut. I want to make a real living doing this and I don't want to have to run all over the country for pennies on the dollar just to get the haul. I would like to try and get on a min. $1.50 pm per haul. I have been reading that this is not possible and most are doing it for $0.50cpm. Is this true? If so how does one make a living on that once you factor in all expences? Again thank u for your reply.

There is money being made by lots of people in trucking today. All you need is some good work ethics and a desire. It's a constant learning process and with knowledge comes money. Just like anything else.

Thanks j3411. I've been reading and the car haulers are saying RUN because the ones that are doing it now have a tough time making a living. I also read on RV towing and they are saying the same (not quiet as much), only on haul-backs. I live 1 1/2 from Midland/Odessa which is a big Oil Field Industry. That is the reason for thought of a 40' Gooseneck. Whats the best thing I could do to get rolling, seeing how I don't have knowldge in Trucking? I want to learn and become succeful in this area. Not looking to run my equipment in the ground for nothing.

Anybody know a good Broker in Texas? Or anywhere else

Sorry Gizmo_Man but if I wanted to watch a tv show about haulin I would. I joined this site hoping for a little more professional advise in starting up my company. That is more like cut throat haulin seeing how it all comes from uship.com. Who wants to bid like that? That web site is for cut throat people. Not interested in undercutting freight. I want to make a living.

you are so wrong..ALL companies are like that, INCLUDING owner-operators that will cut the price under YOU to get a load going either in another direction, OR home..
YOU WAS GIVEN ADVICE, but you got your head so far up your butt, you didn't want to see it.
you only want to see what you want to see, well tell you what, i wish you well in your endeavors and when you run into bad times or bankruptcy, will you be here then asking what can you do then..???
"cut throats" is EVERY WHERE......
good luck.
