Any company drivers getting midnight loads lately forcing you to drive all night?

For the past week I have been getting loads that do not pick up until midnight even when I have a fresh 10 hour restart at 6 AM... I have to sit all day and then pick up at midnight and race to an 10 AM appointment. I can drive nights but been doing this all week straight and it is beginning to get tough. Things like this started happening immediately after I got my raise to .42 per mile. When I was new making 35 - 38 per mile I would get nonstop runs and when I was done with one place I had a couple of hours or less to get to my next shipper to keep rolling. I even tried shutting down way early twice so that I would get a fresh 11 in the morning but they still had my next appt set for late at night.

I wouldn't put up with that for .42/hour.

    Welcome to trucking. It ain't a day-shift, 9-to-5 job.

With my company I only drive between 8:30pm and 6:00am. Really no different than the "day" shift except the is no sun out.

That attitude is why companies get away with it. Unless the job is a night job I would not do this as it is dangerous to stay up all day and the drive all night.

Most trucking companies dont care for drivers, they only care to keep freight moving, sad but is true.

Hmmm if this is becoming a regular thing maybe sleeping during the day is the smart thing to do... Oh wait... That's too obvious.

Its not 9 to 5. If you drive all night then you sleep all day. Everyone gets at least a 10.

Is he gonna pitch a fit now if he drives all night, sleeps all day and then finds out his next load doesn't pick up in the morning... Oh my god, I stayed up all night and they forced me to run all day.

Best to learn now: the guy who stays awake waiting for a load is the guy who is always tired and disappointed with that overnight load.

Who cares about day or night... If you got a raise, you get paid by the mile, all that matters is if you keep moving those miles. I'll take any load any distance as long as I get my 10 breaks and I can reasonably make my appointments.

Worry about the miles, not the time of day.

When you disrupt your sleep patterns like this you run a deficit and it will catch you. If this is happening on a constant basis, the night driving, it is better to ask if this is going to be the norm and either adjust what your sleep times are to match or go somewhere else. There are few people that can get adequate, good quality sleep by moving it around on a regular basis. All research shows this. There is no way you can tell me that a driver that is up for 24 consecutive hours is competent to drive a truck in a reasonably safe manner.

That's trucking. Shippers / receivers are not going to change their schedule to accomodate your desired sleep patterns. I agree it is safer to have a set sleep patern, but it ain't going to happen when there is freight to move. Adapt or change jobs. Sorry.
