Russells Truck Stop - NM & TX State Line

wow so i can keep on checking

 

Man........ I've been by there a thousand times and never thought to stop there. Now I will. I'm rollin east bound next week out of SoCal to NJ and I'll make a point to stop in and visit. Thanks for the heads up!

 

Stopped in for dinner on Thursday (8-30). Great Mexican food with great homemade salsa. Cute waitress, too. This will be a regular stop for now on. The heck with the Flying J and Loves in Tucumccari!!

 

Suffers really?

 

A while back Russells ended up being a beacon of hope for a couple I came across at the NM Welcome center on I-40WB. They were from back east moving to California in an F150 packed and pulling a Uhaul trailer and didn't realize there hadn't been a working gas station in Glenrio, TX in 40 years, lol. They were stopped at the welcome center and asked me as I walked to the bathroom where the nearest gas station was. They had been on E with the low fuel light for some time. It was evening and the lights of the travel center shined on the horizon. I told them that they were only about 5 miles from Russells. If they didn't make it, I'd give the husband a quick ride to Russells to get a gallon of gas in their gascan. The look of relief on their faces was priceless. Didn't see them so I assume they made it.

 

Great truck stop, clean, polite good shop great food. Museum is awsome! the only thing is they need bigger bathrooms. Still my favorite place to stop when running 40.

 

Finally was able to stop and check out Russells for the first time. Awesome. Great food, shower was great $9.00. Nice people. Lots of parking.
