Ah, I suppose I could! That IS perhaps the only metal I could use! The taping of it on my Sirius' window mount has worked just fine, fortunately. Just the wee little antenna that comes with the units, too. -
I tried using one of the small square ones I bought on the passenger mirror but found that I lost my signal anytime I was heading Northwest. I figured somethign similar would llikely happen if I tried to attached the old truck style antenna I had from my century to the factory antenna. I also didn't want to mess up my CB/TV signal any more than it already is with the crappy factory antennas.
Here's how I mounted it instead. This took me about 20 minutes to get the way I wanted while sitting in the Iowa80 TS Parking lot. I was able to just climb up the wing supports. Keep in mind I'm pretty small at 130lbs so some of the heavier guys might want to use a ladder to get up there.
Visible in this pic:
The cord for it then runs down through the wing supports to where the two pieces meet. The cord is attached to them with zipties.
You can see where the cord comes over the plastic and down through the supports:
It then passes between the cab and wing and through 3 small plastic cord holds that are held on with some double sided tape. These can be purchased at any truck stop for like $3 for a pack of 4.
Pic:
It the goes into my passenger door and hides behind the weather stripping until it gets down to the dashboard.
Pic:
Once down by the dashboard it comes back out and runs along the edge and down along the glass until it gets up to the mount on my windshield.
Coming out of weather stripping and into dash:
You can also see the power cord for my cellphone coming out as well.
The Power cord, Antenna Cable, and Aux Cable are ziptied to the mount arm and then onto the arm for my cellphone mount right below it. The extra wire is just coiled up and added the the other mess of wires on the dash for my CB and extra 12V ports.
And then the Aux cord just runs down over the dash to the Radio Head Unit. If you are having problems with your radio just go to the shop and tell them you want a new one. They will put one of these in:
The other cable hanging over is for when I decide I want to either listen to music saved to my phone or use Slacker Radio.
With the antenna mounted this way I get a perfect signal no matter which way I'm pointing. It's also the tallest point on the tractor now so I don't have many problems unless I'm driving with a cliff right next to me . -
You can't see it but I bought the oil magnet one with the double sided 3m tape and mounted it there before I found a spot for the original antennaVitamin D Thanks this. -
I just realized we get paid $15 every time we watch the quarterly sustainment videos. Not so much of a pain in the ### as I used to think.
Vitamin D Thanks this. -
