So what is going on Mike?

Whoa dude..... back it up and think this thru. Company drivers are driving the same, exact trks that L/O's are driving. Just a little older. In fact, they started out as lease trks and have probably been thru, at least a couple who failed at the business. Headaches WILL BE more, as an L/O. Paper work will be more, cause of all you'll need to keep fro tax purposes. You'll have to get your own insurance. You'll be fighting for thos extra miles, that will make you profitable, instead of being in the hole. Heck, you'll probably even end up being a trainer, just like the one you have now, trying to make that extra money.
PLEASE THINK IT ALL THRU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Midnight Mike and tablefor7 Thank this. -
Ive arrived yesterday at noon, earlier than anticipated because ta rerouted my trainer straight to the yard. I ended up in the olathe terminal with about 12 guys only 3 of which were from my rockwall class. The hotel here also allows you to room by yourself at the cost of 35$ per night for 2-3 nights. Now after thinking alot on what ive been told while with trainer i weighed the positives and negatives. Positives are i can take my own routes by my house whenever im through oklahoma, use my own gps, not get yelled at if i go out of route take my own fuel stops so not get yelled at for missing one. Bigger t700. Pet policy. If i get into an accident i wont lose my job compared to if i was a company guy. The main reason i didnt want to go lease was because of what others have said where some weeks you get no check, but im ok with that even if i make 1-200 less a week i wont mind i want to make this 6 months go by as easy as possible. I dont have family to support or tons of bills. I also only plan on being with ta for 6 months then going local for either trying to be a correctional officer and/or work local tanker job. Were just about to start the lease deal here in the class. Ill let you know later whats discussed.

I have to be honest here and say that I agree with Midnight Mike- Pete, it just seems like you are looking for a fight and honestly, I don't have a 'bad taste in my mouth' from Mike but rather from you hounding him, Pete. If you are a representation of the company in question I am more prone to steer clear. My job, at the moment, is to help my husband pick a company to work for- what Mike is sharing is his own experience and that's what I read it as. Consequently, I read, and understood perfectly, that one of the guys who left orientation left BECAUSE he failed his UA, not because he was given a truck and began working for the company....in other words: DRIVERS, BEWARE...IF YOU 'USE' YOU LOOSE. I don't see how that could've been read any other way. The point is, Midnight Mike is sharing his experience and is doing it HIS way....not your way, HIS, and last I heard, there was nothing wrong with that. If sharing YOUR experience is accomplished by harassing others then I, for one, am loosing interest in TA by the minute and cannot give my husband a good recommendation.Midnight Mike and bseam Thank this. -
so heres the plan guys i signed papers to go lease today ( i feel like an idiot for being so set on company ) they didnt talk me into it i talked myself into it. I couldnt igNore the perks of being able to pass by the house whenever i go through oklahoma. Or have the option to take the shortest route between my gps and theirs. I have no worry of missing one of their 4 or 5 fuel stops they might have in a delivery. Taking off more than 4 days if i wanted to. Pet policy and if i get into an accident i might get fired as a company guy (then where can i go) where if im lease i pay a deductable and get a new truck. Im a little different then most and im perfectly content with only making 2-700 a week as i just want my first few months to be as stress free as possible while i get my experience and go elsewhere.
a little rundown of what happened today.
Log in to bluetree
Right away ask if your lease or company
Lease guys get seperated and start on paperwork and look at trucks.
Company guys go to room to Listen to how they explain the lease figures
Listen to a tax preparer presentation (888$ a year-ouch)
listen to a 401k presentation
Go to lunch
at this point im not sure what happens as i was hesitant still on going lease and had some payroll issues so i had to go take care of that then afterwards i decided to jump in andthey told me to look at trucks which by that time there was only 2 left and didnt wanteither so im waiting for some to come in. By the time i walked the yard it was time to head back around 5. The lease guys bobtailed their trucks to the motel to get their items and the company guys were shuttled back to motel at around 4. Btw if you want to go lease for 4-5 years then consider ordering a truck when your in orientation you can pick the color and get a brand new 2013 by the time you get back with your trainer.
Oh btw my plan is 3 months at trans am then going to us xpress as they have automatics/pet policy/regional runs/and .40cpm! I wanted to go to them to begin with but i didnt like their 3 weeks with trainer then 8 more with another student, but going by what their website shows they changed it, i wont need to go with a trainer if i have 3 mo. Experience and they offer solo and even increased their pay from the last time i looked at them.Last edited: Sep 6, 2012
tablefor7 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the many updates, Mike, I plan to follow you more. My brother-in-law has been driving for 20 years and currently has a dedicated route with Heartland; he has warned us, from his own experience, (which my husband and I witnessed over the years) to NEVER LTO a truck. That being said, we're both mid-sized families so of course there are much bigger reasons as to why going that 'route' isn't logical- a low paycheck being one of them. It sounds like you have a plan for the future and that's always a good thing. Drive safely and keep the posts coming!
