The communication is this; You send a message over computer in your truck (Driver Tech). Some will get right back to you within 15 mins others will not get back to you for 3 to 7 hrs via Driver Tech. If you call the FM on the phone, sometimes you get through quickly and other times you don't. Sometimes you will be on-hold for a long time and than bam! you get disconnected. I ONLY call if absolutely necessary. I send a DT message if I need something but if they don't want to get back with me, I bug them every 15mins. Or, I just wait,,,and if that means I don't get the load or the load don't get delivered, I blame them. Another thing: When shift changes and you have been talking with an FM for an hour you will get a message from the night FM asking what you need...now, you have to start all over again but, I tell them to read the messages in the que from whatever time the conversastion started. It gets frustrating sometimes and most times it isn't that bad but for a solo its different because a solo has to deal with the FM almost daily. I love when we (team) get a 3 or 4 day run,,,no FM to deal with.![]()

Is it me or has communication gotten worse in the last week and a half
-
Yes communication is bad. But miles are good.
I have found a call to a DL or a mac 55 gets instant
results. MF needs to hear about the issues with his co.
I have stopped calling if put on hold. Message them often
and let them know the truck won't move till you get an answer.
Also if you get their log ID it works to send a email directly
to them from your phone.truckinfroggy and budman58 Thank this. -
What is a DL? I assume it's the F's boss.

Well, just came home from the Dr. and I'm going to have to see an orthopedic surgeon. Great, just great. He said the ER Doc was an idiot not have seen the separation in my shoulder. Don't know exactly what the next step is just yet. I couldn't get an appt. until Tuesday with the ortho doc. But, the way it looks now, I'm going to be out for a while. SUCKS!!!!
Wedge Thanks this. -
Brother, ive been out for 3 months. dislocated my elbow teaching my kid to ride with no training wheels, he turned the bike right in front of me and over i went. i almost lost my arm. 3 surgeries and 3 months plus later im cleared to get back to work. i drove with Werner on thier best buy account, however only 35ppl on there and i couldnt get it back. i hope you have the disability insurance, also elect to use your cobra coverage, which i did with werner, no complaints on them, they were great to me. i had a type 2 shoulder sep in janurary on the job, (family dollar). that took 2 months. this has been a rough year. trust me just be positive and keep a good attitude. it helps. good luck, god bless

Almost feel like I work for a different company.
The relationship you have with your FM is key. I don't suffer from a communication breakdown as long as my FM is on duty. Like SheepDog said, shift changes are like starting over...........sometimes.
Weekends are another matter.
If I'm running on schedule, being dispatched is very rarely a problem. The reason is most times, planning will "stack" your loads 2 to 3 deep because they know where you're headed. So even if you put in your empty call on a Saturday afternoon, another load is ready to go, already pre-determined.
But if a problem arises, truck breakdown, extended delay at shipper, anything that forces you to be late with your delivery appointment could very well compromise the next load, and the one after that. That's when the problems start.
Trying to get moving on a weekend after having a run go sideways can be difficult.
In that situation, I start off by giving the "on duty" FM my available hours for that day, and the next 3. Then, I bury them with MAC 29s every hour until something gives.
Phones? Maybe at 0200, but not when the suns up. I only call when there's no choice.
