wow i consider myself blessed and fortunate to found my place at dot foods. they really are not your typical trucking company.
the hiring proccess can take a few weeks, you do three real interviews but it is totally worth it. for my final interview, they put me up in a hotel, reimbursed me for my fuel and meals, this was before they even hired me mind you.
they dont have a recuirter, Don, one of the managers did my interview and does the hiring. during training, they cover all your meals, i was home weekly. heres why i think their training is top notch, NO team driving.the student drives all miles and the trainer is in the passanger seat.
they do hire students out of school but you will do 8 weeks training, less if you have experience.
we are a private fleet, we get our dispatch a week in advance, we never sit, youre home weekly and get paid.for everything.
paid real odometer miles, if youre out more than 8 days you get paid, yes that means youre home weekly. they give you a monthly cell phone allowance, you get paid to chain up even! full bennies, sick and personal days off, vacation pay.
most importantly i love the culture here, i feel respected, i am treated with such, the company appreciates the driver. wd just had a driver appreciation dinner at a steak house, they have company picknicks for your family, we just had a 5k.
i cant say enough great.things about.this company.
ok to.the nitty gritty. we do.throw freight, i personally think its cake, i get paid very handsomely for it as well. they told me during my interview i would make about 50k my first year, i think that was very conservative on their end. i just started a few months and im on par to clear 60k, all the drivers i spoke.cleared that their.first year.here.
we have an extremely low turnover around 7 percent, a lot of drivers here that have been 10 plus years. it seemed too good to be frue but i have been given everything promised and then some.
trucks are mostly volvos, dot owns all their trucks so they do have miles on some but they are maintained well. eaton fuller 10 speed autos on most, no apus but the shop installed a 3k watt inverter for me. trucks governed at 68 but you get a 3.cent bonus for.running 60 and lower, also an idle.bonus.
its late and im forgetting things but feel free to ask. they have limited hiring areas, you have to live within a 100 miles of.one of.their.terminals, they have them in california, illinois, idaho, oklahoma, new york, indiana, maryland, and a few more, they have them on their website dotfoods.com
my new career and home at dot foods

Glad to hear something about Dot, I talked with Liverpool guys awhile back while checking out CDL schools. It all sounded real good, couldn't figure out why everybody wasn't applying there... maybe it's the unloading. Starting school Monday and will be getting back in touch with them soon. Hope to hear from other drivers from Dot too. Thanks for the info.
Just curious where is Surf City? -
surf city is huntington beach, its in southern california. the ca dot yard is in modesto which is about 7 hours from me but as i said i got real lucky because they have a satellite yard in los angeles.where four drivers run out of, well 5 now including me. i didnt even know when i applied, i was going to move to modesto to work for dot, just an added bonus

Dot driver's wife here.
My husband works out of the OK yard and really enjoys working for this company. You work hard for them and they will work hard for you!

Wow nice to hear good news about a company, thanks for the comments, I will post my Dot results as soon as I have some.

well I am home now, got my dispatch for next week. I will be local all next week, I made 1170 this week which did not include my bonuses, I have friday sat and sun off...not bad for a rookie huh.

I have only been a driver for dot for about a month now and I must say I really do love this company. I am home usually once during the week and the weekend off. I previously drive for trans am and hated every minute. my orientation at trans am had over 50 people and they did that every week. my dot orientation only had me and 2 other guys and they have only had one other orientation since I was hired.....that has got to tell you something. I would consider yourself and whoever else that gets hired by them to be amoung the lucky few. maybe ill see you on a turn sometime. take it easy and drive safe
