Hello,
I have been reading this forum for about 2 weeks and now I have decided to speak and get all of your opinions. Yes, I'm aware that you don't know me or my history and that's why I'm going to be vague in my question.
Here it goes. I'm a 35 yr old male living on the west coast. I have had jobs ranging from laying up plywood in the northwest to authenticating collectibles in the southwest. Currently I'm sitting behind a desk but consider myself more of a manual labor guy. Now i feel its time for a career change. Before jumping on the net and letting all the negative crap discourage me, I decided to narrow it down to what I thought I wanted to do. Here are my 2 choices, now I just need opinions. 1. Otr driver hopefully something western 11. Or; 2. A heavy equipment operator.
I have no experience with either but have always been fascinated with both. I know I will need schooling for either and have been doing the research on different schools and their accreditation. I know heo costs more.
Knowing what you know, if you had the choice what would you decide?
Need opinion on direction

For me, much of my advice would depend on what you consider your family and/or married life is or what you want it to be. OTR has ended many marriages and puts a lot of stress on young kids who are used to having their dad around consistently. "Weekends Home" is typically not anywhere near guaranteed regardless where you're working regional/otr
Western OTR fleets are common with many larger carriers and western based carriers too, obviously. I don't know what Equipment operator's life/pay is like and what the entry pay is like and what the construction outlook is in the short term so I can't speak to that side of it.tablefor7 Thanks this. -
Sorry STexan I can't reply in pm until 10 posts.
To answer your question I would point you towards heritage auction in Dallas. www.ha.com. They can help I'm sure. -
Its all got no where else to go but up from here. I have a girlfriend of 8 years and no children other than a dog and cat. -
