Carter is a Great Company to work for, front office will do anything for you, if you need training, their trainers are so - so! And they have mile and miles to go, alot of freight at the moment! But most of it is from the Auto industry, so if it slows so do your miles, they had to lay off 200 emp. last winter, you might keep that in mind. Almost every weekend off. Their equipment is also awesome Volvo's with either 10sp or Autos and their on campus garage keeps them in top condition. From 1 - 10 I'd rate them a high 7 or a low 8, their high insureance cost when other companies are finding ways to keep them lower, is what keeps them out of the 9 or 10 rating. As the title says I'd Go 4 it !

I live in TN and worked for them for 6 years. I was a "domicile driver" with a dedicated run. There are still several Carter Drivers here in my town now.

I was told by Kelli in recruiting that they would pay the total bill for me to renew mine, fingerprints included. And all they required at the time of hire was that you had taken the test and were waiting for a reply from TSA.

Seem like decent folks to work for.

I have recently applied to Carter Express witch stated that i would hear back from them in 24 to 48 hours and havent received any word ! Think maybe they are not interested? I am already holding my class A permit and have all my endorsments and have an appointment for my finger printing next week . I started with a school in Indy but was dropped out of class for a felony 9 years and 3 months ago (no drug charges or DUI's). I have now filed paper work to have felony dropped and waiting on my court date but the longer i go not working the farther im getting behind. Retail and fast food not pay'n the bills! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on getting around this problem would be greatly appreceated .

Hi TT tran, when my husband applied from being out of truck training school, they contacted him within 48 hours. It sounds like to me that you haven't finished trucking school because of your felony, and that is one of their requirements for employment. Here is my advice to you, if you are still needing to get your cdl and finish your 150 hours of training. Millis Transfer has their own driving program to obtain to your cdl which lasts for 4 weeks, and then you will go into training with a driver. They do pay you for training, more then what Carter Express does, and they are one of the better companies to work for. I know they require a $100 deposit once you are excepted into their program, and then they do small deductions out of your check for tuition, but after 1 year of driving for them the rest is forgiven. No I am not a recruiter, I have done a lot of research on different companies here in the past few weeks. I have used the forum to figure out the right company for my husband to go to (leaving Carter). So my suggestion is to contact Millis which has a facility near cincinnati, OH. You would have to get your way their to one of their facilities which wouldn't be very much to have someone drive you there.
They hold classes every 4 weeks. Most companies require that your felony be 7 years old, so you should be okay with them.

    TTTran Thanks this.

Also, check into Sage, Ivytech in Muncie, and talk to their recruiter. You are required to have 150 hours of training in order to get your CDL. Once you graduate from them then you can go to any company you want. If you want to be home weekly then I would suggest Carter, but if you want to make better money then I would go to Wels company, Millis Transfer, H.O . wolding, or Maverick. The number to Ivy tech is 765-289-2291 x1425 and talk to Carol Antrim the recruiter.

Also, I reread the forum. It is $100 deposit to secure your spot at Millis, and then the $400 must be paid when you get there. Total cost is $2500. Just food for some thought.

Taplightly.............. They do still require HM, but all they require to be hired is to pass the haz mat test. You can do the rest after you're hired and they will pay for the fingerprinting and other BS. Matter of fact, I took the test 6 months ago and still haven't taken the time to schedule the fingerprinting. Lazy I guess and they've said not a word.

Excellent place to work. I wish I had come here 10 years ago. Everything they say they'll do gets done. Just had a Driver Appreciation Day yesterday in Anderson where they were giving away all kinds of swag, including the new Google Nexus 7 Tablet.

If you're thinking of applying, talk to Kelly in recruiting and give her my driver code as a referral (cpm-001) and it'll out some serious bucks in both our pockets.
