Would you guys consider it stealing if you lumped a load and charged the broker ?

I am under a CHR load with 3 stops all delivering to US FOOD SERVICE, I knew there was gonna be a lumper fee at all 3 stops when I took it and the fee will be paid by CHR...I know the lumper service will get the money to break down the load, So my question to you guys is If I did the work would you think I am stealing from CHR if I charged the same fee as the lumper service to do the same work??
I am not out of shape, but I could use some exercise and this would be a good way to do it Instead of sitting on my brain while they do it. Plus I had a truck repair last week that set me back about $1000 so I could use the money to offset that repair.
I know alot of you will say that you don't unload yourself and would rather pay the service and I normally do that also...Just wanted to know if you guys feel it is stealing if I charged the same fee to the broker and do the work myself.

Why would it be stealing, they have to pay someone. I use to finger print a load if i had the time or wasnt tired and charged CHR.

Not at all. Pocket the money, and go about your business. I have done it before.

Its only stealing if US Foods charges $50 and you charge Cheap and Heavy $150

But who would ever know unless you post it on a public fourm........................

CHR likely knows what the lumper service is charging so you're probably not going to get any more than what the lumper service charges. For all the hassle you will likely have to deal with I'm betting it won't be worth it. I'd just get an express code from CHR and let the lumper service deal with it.

I used to lump all of my loads and charged the company somewhat less than the lumpers but not too much. It all depended on the load. If the customer wanted $100 I would offer to do it for $75. If brokered (third company) I would charge the same as the broker figuring they knew what the charge would be to start with. Its not stealing unless, like the above said, you charge $150 for a $100 load and have the lumper put down that amount and split the $150 or if it turns out no lumper is required and you falsify a receipt and pocket the money.

    Hells, no.

If you provide labour, then you should be paid for labour, one way or another. Fullstop, end-of.

And if the broker quibbles about it, then you should probably find another broker. Unless, of course, you don't mind working for nothing?

If I touched a load I expect to get paid for it. This is my job, I'm not volunteering to work for free. Work = Pay.

It is the responsiblity of the owner operator to deliver the load. That means to unload the truck is part of the job. If you charge for unloading then that is all perfectly fine. If you have to pay a lumper and the broke pays you for that, that is okay also. The load is not delivered until it is off the truck.
