Has anyone tried to use cleaned used motor oil as a supplement to their diesel fuel, or as an alternative fuel? I have been reading about doing it by polishing/cleaning it with a centrifuge/filter setup then running it as a mix with your fuel. I cant decide whether to do this, or make some bio-diesel out of waste veg oil, but im going to do something with fuel going through the roof!!!

Did it for years, only thing is to keep water and solids out of it.

I pumped it thru two, three micron filters. 70/30 diesel to waste mix in the winter and 50/50 in the summer. Problem is if the revenuers dip your tanks they could get you for it using non taxed fuel.

I would collect and/or make all you can and use it heavy in warmer months and then accumulate it in the colder months for the coming warmer seasons.

Had a friend that used it for a long time. Not sure why he stopped, except hard to keep up with production for all his equipment. Never ran it in his semi though. Burned just fine!

What do you do for fuel tax though? I have thought of making biodiesel and running it blended 50/50 with diesel. Wouldnt the revenuers pick up on the fact that you are getting double the fuel mileage you actually are?

Easy way to check the mix is to do a simple cloud test of your mixture, start out with a 50/50 blend of your home fuel and wait for a average cold day in your hauling area. You want the fuel to not cloud on the coldest day, if the fuel clouds reduce the bio and add more diesel.

Just to be clear - are we talking about used motor oil filtered, or actually refined motor oil? I wouldn't even dream of putting the first in my diesel. Even small amounts.

Well what do you think Lucas injector cleaner is anyway? ITS A OIL!!! AND IT BURNS!!! AND IT CLEANS!!! Im talking about recycling waste used motor oil( and or veg oil) then cleaning it with a centrifuge that i already have, that removes water and particulate matter down to 1 micron level. I plan on adding it to my fuel at probably50/50 mix. I have heard and read for years about older mechanical injection trucks doing it with great success, and the manufacturers used to even make an system that pulled oil right out of the crankcase adn added it to the fuel as a supplement and a lubricity enhancer. My only concern is how will the newer solenoid controled injectors act with it, so i put this out there to see if anyone has done it on later model trucks.

I've ran a car on both veggie oil and waste veggie oil, works a dream, waste veggie oil was better,a tablespoon of mentholated spirits into every 5 gallons and it ran like a clock except for the smell you get from chip shops off it, we used run trucks on agricultural diesel , we used use split tanks, the part of the tank under the filler cap was regular diesel (for when u get dipped) the rest was ag diesel filled through the appeture for the pipes and diesel gauge fitting, you could try something like that?
