Is that a good thing or a bad thing being unionized. Haven't been around this block long enough to know if your being genuine or sarcastic? lol

Nope, I was being for real. You seem to have a good grip on civie trucking reality. In the CF we had the rule book, and that was that. Outside you know that there is a pecking order, or a 'todem' pole of seniority. Being Unionized means both. There is a rule book ( the Contract, or collective agreement ) AND there is a non-sliding seniority scale that you have to work your way up. The higher up you are, the better equipment you operate, and the choice of runs and/or loads falls down from the top first. Get me ?

Being unionized is usually pretty good. High cost labour (usually) means better jobs and productivity. The union v. non-union debate starts and stops in many threads both here and on other forums.

Having worked in union and non-union environments, there are advantages and dis-advantages to both. Just really depends on what is more important to you. I made more money non union, but had a great pension in the union. Benefits were the same for both.

I worked for Andy Stieva Trucking and it was NOT a pleasant experience. I also found him rude, obnoxious and a slave driver. I found his demeanour very condessending. He would make me run over my hours and expect me to deliver in unreal times, then he would say "we'll fix the logs when you get back" which never happened!
He never payed my wait time and had me waiting sometimes for two or three days on some jobs. Many times I was stuck at the border for 12-27 hours average because of bad paperwork.
He shorted me milage! All drivers were to hand in trip envelopes with mileage written on it, but we never got paid for that figure. Shortages every week...
I also interstated under protest, but did it anyway to try to save my job.

Oh yeh...Almost forgot of the wonderful character assasination they did on me and now not only can't I collect pogey, but finding a new job is tedious.

Thanks ASTL for all your thoughtfulness.????????????????

Yes we were hard working folk for sure.
It's a shame management treated us as simple commodities.

Chasing owed money from this guy is futile.
He owes me quite a few bucks which I will never see, as well as down time monies, which he denies he got from companies, but I know different. Andy loves to pocket drivers hard erned money but he will be quick to tell you your doing a terrible job and don't deserve it???

Beware of "logistics" or "express" in a company name. Most times, now days, it means "run hard" and "we'll get ya home as soon as we can"!!
