Onetrack - passing that beast scared you so bad you jumped into the passenger seat to get away from it??

Sounds like you've had some fun runs lately, glad to hear it. About time you got out and earned that salary...

Excuse my ignorance gentlemen but its time to make a trip to Workwear World and buy the appropriate clothing for truckin' in Alberta.
Anyone got some advice on boots? Leather uppers or rubber? Any other suggestions? -
some will want 8" some wontWestcoastsailor Thanks this.

As rzl said make sure you know how tall they have to be where you work. Try and find some that are light as you will be up and down out of the cab a lot in some jobs. Last winter I wore steel toed rubber boots with a -40 liner in them and was very comfortable. YmmvWestcoastsailor Thanks this.

SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS !!!!!!! Both for tax purposes, company re-imbursements (if offered), and product warranty issues. Just like Caribou-Kid, I live in top of the line CSA winter rubbers, and about once every three years I get a leak (always at the worst possible time and the furthest off the beaten track). Back they go. Brand new replacements - no questions asked (or tolerated !)Westcoastsailor, oilfield and Brit101 Thank this.

Thanks Speedloader and Cariboo-kid. Good advice.
How 'bout work pants? Do you prefer the bib kind or waist high? Brand? Material? -
Clothing wise, I'm a cover-all kid. +40 or -40 .... I'm in cover-alls (arctic's or summers). I'm also in car haul now. So if you're going to the 'patch', I'd better lay off now and let the other guys lend advice.
Actually, that'd be a good thread for YOU to start: call it '1st timers personal packing list for working the patch' ..... ? Just a thought, but I bet you'd get some great tips on a topic specific thread.
Car haul is deadly slow over the winter ( at least where I'm at ). I'm thinking of heading back out west ( WEST in that I'm a Maritimer ) just for the freeze up for the next few winters. I'm kinda partial to Northern AB and BC round wood (stick) work. I like the woods. It can be just as messy and maddening as the 'patch' ...... I just I like the woods is all.
Clothing doesn't change a whole lot between the two thoo. Winter time rule is dress up, then dress up more. If you get hot out there, you can always un-dress. If you get out of the cab and you're cold, and you have nothing else to put on ... you're screwed.oilfield, Brit101 and Westcoastsailor Thank this. -
some places you need nomex, some places you dont....its a costly mistake either way
and some places issue themWestcoastsailor Thanks this. -
Thats a great idea Speedloader............
