I am looking for some backing training, sad to say the school I went to did not give any instruction in backing at a 45 I was hired by Schneider and went threw the 3 weeks of training even in the training for them I only backed maybe 3 times. I was told It takes time. Then out on the road for a week where there was one instance of backing, with trial, and prayer I got into. When I came back in they give you a Safety Test, which I passed everything, but the backing. Which to their credit they gave me 5 hours to get it. Which I did not get it. I guess the time that It would take to learn ran out.??

I have came to far now to give up over this one obstacle. Any help would be apperacitaed I do have my CDL db/trp/tk/hax

can u back a 90 sight side? (if you had a whack load of room)

The two following posts contain very good tips. I'll just itemize everything that I figure might help you so that it's not a jumbled mess.

    1. Set up is key. BUT don't worry if it's not perfect because the practise gained when backing your way out of a bad setup is good.

    2. DO NOT get your panties in a knot. (2nd post below mine: turn the CB off) ... and the radio or any other distraction. I can back
the trains up around a barn, yet some days I cant back the end dump up around a corner. #### happens, we all have bad days,
    don't sweat it.

    3. Think before you turn the wheel, what's it going to do.

    4. Don't oversteer (again 2nd below me)

    5. Backing sight side, keep the drivers side as close as you can to the obstacle you have to get around. (right below me :) , the why
    is explained)

    6. When you turn the wheel remember you have two pivot points, the kingpin and your trailer axles. Don't try to figure out where
that trailers gonna go simply by looking at the box, look at where your trailer wheels are headed. (big deception here if your
axles are slid fairly far forward)

    7. There is no shame in pulling forward 5 feet to reset if it get's you in the hole. Hell pull up 5 times if you have to. Pulling forward
as little as a foot can fix everything sometimes.

    8. Right before you do #7, refer to #2 again before throwing her back into reverse. Especially if it's the 2nd or 3rd time you pull up
    to correct.

That's all I got. I've been backing up since I was a kid so I can't explain how because to me turn right to go left etc. is just confusing. I just back up lol, I understand it and that's all there is to it. And soon you will too.

If you went out with a trainer, and he didn't teach you to back up, which is the most fundamental part of your job, then he should be fired. Anyone can drive straight, and dodge light polls and stop signs when making turns, but not everyone can back up. If you really want to learn it you can, but why the school and your trainer didn't teach you is absurd. Backing is as easy as you make it. Turn right, go left. Turn left, go right. Always keep the trailer as close to the line on the driver side as possible. If you're on the line, you aren't anywhere near the other trailer on passenger side(except for your overhang when you initially go into the hole). There are youtube videos on backing as well.

oversteer is the number one enemy that rookies face when learning to back a trailer. you will get it, just keep trying. turning the cb radio off helps too if you get easily frustrated lol

So that means you don't owe them for the schooling then...Get another job, and you're free to go. All you need is a company with a good trainer. Make sure the trainer knows you need help with backing and if they won't teach you, ask for another one.

Take it easy and slow, too. Don't let others rush you!

And when in doubt, get out and look!

And of course...... Practice, practice, and more practice.
