Reading some of this topic. The Scania R720 is limited in torque in the lower gears and you only get the full numbers in the last gears I was told. Also to opticruise takes care of having the power under control.
Im a great fan for the DC16 and the XPI16 liter, and 800Hp on a DC16 series engine is not that hard but the main problem is the drive train pulling these numbers.
There are those that bay an R730 as a statement running it for normal freight going uphill without any effort from the engine not having problems running it with normal service intervals.
Heavy Haulage as we discover can course problems as 600Hp+ trucks have more problems with the oil breaking down a lot faster than expected due to overheating in summertime of transmission parts sometimes resulting in breakdowns.
Again it seems the engine is getting more power and the rest of the drive train stay behind as it is.
It looks like the marked of 600Hp+ trucks filed up a part of Heavy Haulage marked looking as an option for lower running cost compared to special build Heavy Haulage trucks with a drive train that soot the job a lot better.

Some people buy the 730 for fuel saving others just for show, they are returning 11mpgs @ 97000lbs , a guy I know has 3 and his are returning 9.5mpg+ doing heavy reefer work to Italy which is extremely mountainous ! -
Ok fair about that but what's the COP on these trucks? Do you hold records of these?
-
The company is part of the biggest electricity utility in the world.
They are supposed to be a separate stand alone company but are supported by the government and thus have no problem wasting taxpayers money so they can have the biggest trucks possible.
The privately run companies run more conventional set ups like the rest of the world. -

Ok COP is continues operating power.
The problems with overheating axels and faster breakdown of the oil was a general problems for this Heavy Haulage company as the had the same thing going with there Volvo trucks.
The solution was really simple. Change oil more often but coming back to running cost they did get nowhere close to the normal service intervals. My point is gain some and lose some with the ever bigger demand for Hp up to a point they start introducing coolers in the axels.
For the new Scania 16.4L V8 I wonder if they will start producing it with the PDE injectors as well. I was told a year ago that the 13L was coming with PDE injectors as well for truck use for a non domestics marked and as I discover a month ago you can bay them on our continent as well.
The DC16 series V8 is the last engine running on the old parts platform of Scania so it looks like a logical step that R500 and onwards will have the 16.4L engine as well in the future? -

i am looking at scania
they say 12speed gearbox without crawler has now 2350nm capacity and it is 20kg lighter than before.....
current grs895 have 2150nm capacity but scania did fit it on engines up to 440(2300nm)
they did not say anything about 12+2 or overdrive
so this means probably 200nm increase over all range...including on latest ......so this could mean that new engine would be 3700 or maybe even more -
Yes I wonder as well about the 200Nm increase on some models. What interest me even more is if we get Holset VGT on all models of Scania V8 so we get more low end torque.
Looking at the youtube movie that 98989 posted it seems the XPI V8 has lost some weight as well compared to the old engine bock.
