CRST Malone L/P from the beginning

    Well the trick would be to be able to keep running on the weekends. You would need to find some shippers/receivers that load/unload on the weekends or find a long load that would carry you over the weekend. But the long load would get you out of your happy freight area. Also keep in mind you have extra deductions for about the first 6 months.

    When you say after taxes are you talking personal taxes? If so you do those yourself and everyones tax rate is going to be different. I would say taking home $2k/week after taxes on the l/p would be extremely difficult, specially for the first 6 months or so. I have heard of people doing it but they may just be blowing smoke too.

    Gravdigr, Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I meant net to the truck after all expenses and "before" personal taxes. I definitely don't mind working the weekends. I have seen some freight that is flexible and loads on the weekends on the Landstar Board. I would want to get that truck paid off as soon as possible and build up my own maintenance fund in addition to the $0.12 for CRST Malone. I know that I would probably not be getting over $1500 net until I built up the relationships with the agents and learned the lanes, but I would hope that I could get pretty close to that weekly $2000 net number after I spent a few months on the account. Over the past couple of weeks, what has been your MPG average?

    If this CRST Malone account works out good for you and you get your truck paid for, do you think that you would want to keep it or trade it in on a newer model?

    Not being sarcastic, But the company I'm with now, I could bring home $750 to $1,000 a week, after fuel. And be home every weekend. And by the house at least once a week. If I can't bring home at least $1,500 with CRST Malone by being out for 2 weeks, then I see no point in leaving where I'm at.
    Do you? I'm only getting about .92cpm + FSC, which brings it up to about $1.35 this week. No trailer rental, low insurance cost and I'm always in Texas, so there's no need for 48 state registration and very little paperwork. No milage records to keep etc etc.
    I was expecting about $1.75 PM (to the truck) and about 3,000 miles per week.
    The numbers:
    $1.75 X 3,000 = $5,250 - $2000(fuel) = $3,250 - $500 (deductions)

    Leaves a grand total bring home to $2,750. That's what I was expecting.

    How many miles are you running with CRST? (average)

    That's pretty much what I'm doing now. I was out last weekend but had 5 days off before that and taking 4 this week because I need to take care of a zoning issue with the borough this week which means I need to be home on a weekday.

    I average 2,000-2,500 miles per week and my truck is getting 6.5-7mpg. But there is a good bit of deadhead in there as I learn the lanes and try to find freight that takes me closer to home.

    I definitely plan on keeping this truck unless something goes catastrophically wrong.

    I was going to send this in PM, but your box is full....

    You see, that's what's messed up. With the company I'm with, I usually get about 2,000 to 2,500 miles per week. And still bring home about $750 to $1,000 a week. The only reason I'm bringing this up, and I'm not trying to rub this in your face, But I want to be sure the money is a lot better before I go running so far away from home. If it's not, then why do it? Right?
    I think there's something I'm missing.. Because I'm running at about $1.35 per mile. And bringing home about the same as what your bringing home at $2 per mile.
    Maybe it's all the little factors combined. Deadhead, you're truck payment, deductions etc etc.

    Let me ask another question. If you had someone closely watching the load boards for you, pre-planning your loads, do you think you'd make a lot more?

    The $2/mile is loaded miles. I don't include my deadhead because my deadhead may be more or less than yours. I have had to deadhead 400mi for a load because I made the mistake of taking a load into kansas when there were no loads out so I deadheaded to st louis. I can deadhead 25% in a week due to poor load planning. So I give you the loaded mileage rate and you control the deadhead yourself. I can't remember if you had your own truck or were going L/P but for me I have truck payment, trailer payment, 12cpm maintenance on all miles loaded and empty, securement equipment payment, plus the last 3 weeks I have been paying $161/wk for having freightliner install my power inverter (don't even get me started on that snafu).

    Having someone that knows what they are doing plan my loads would certainly help my bottom line. But I have to learn how to properly plan my loads and preplan on my own so I have a load ready once my current one is delivered. I'm getting better at that. It's a learning process for me and I knew that going in.

    Do u find ig easyier to call the agents and ask fkr loads or fi.d them on the load board

    What I'm looking for, is a place where I can run no more than 2500 miles a week, and still bring home $2,000. I have no truck payment. And it's in good shape. I also have a wife who would keep a close watch on the load boards and possibly even book them for me. Or at least contact the brokers to get the info.
    I don't have a trailer, securement equipment, registration in other states etc etc. So I know that will be an added expense for a while. And wouldn't expect to make $2,000 a week with the extra deductions. But after 6 months, seems all but the trailer rental would be paid in full.

    Is that do-able?

    I check the board and ask for loads. I also like to let an agent know a day or 2 in advance when I will be in their area and sometimes get callbacks with loads.

    And my inbox is cleaned out.
