    Hey ya'll,

I'm a 3rd generation driver. 1st of the 3 to be a company driver. And times have changed since my dad or gpa drove and owned their own trucks. I plan to team with my uncle who just got his CDL and he is having trouble getting work. (mainly because of his religious beliefs)

I want to start off by lease to own from a good company so we can get a good truck, and also have some time together so that we can learn how to navigate in this old and now new territory of the American Trucker. I had been thinking CR England, but I have yet to see ANYTHING good about them. I'm now thinking maybe Werner, Schneider, and who knows, maybe even swift. I just want work, and be able to get home for a few days every couple of weeks.

Any idears? Please hit me up.

In addition, here's our "Big game plan" on how & why I believe that we will be successful.

#1- we're going as a team, 2x the miles in half the time.
#2- My uncle has been a financial director for many years, he knows how to budget and how to NOT spend money. I can't budget nothing, if I have money, I spend it.
#2.5- I have been around trucks most of my life. I know how to maintain one and keep it running good. I know how to get the best MPG's (old skool standards) I know how to load a truck and pretty much MOST (no one knows EVERYTHING) about reefers and vans.
#3- we are both VERY driven to succeed. We both have bills and kids and would like to create something that can be left for them.

If you want to do those things check out prime. I think you'd have to train separately but once thats done I think its open season. OpenRoadDreamer has a good thread on the prime board. They have reefer, dry van and open deck divisions. Good luck.

Take a look at Swift Transportation. Plenty of work: O/O teams are getting 5-6K miles/week. Their O/O and L/O programs are pretty strong. If you add the fuel surcharge to the mileage rate, you get $1.40/mile, (solo rate) more if your trips are in various ranges. Swift provides base plates, IFTA sticker, EZ pass, insurance, bookkeeping, and a full range of services that they take from your mileage income. I'm thinking of it myself. I've driven for them since January, company driver, and they've paid me on time every Tuesday, no BS at all. I've had to re-scan a couple of receipts for scales and lumpers, but they've always paid me in full, and on time. In 8 months I've averages 10K miles/month, or 2,500/week, slightly more than they told us during orientation. Lease operators have a 3 year contract, O/O's agreement is open-ended. Take a look.

www.swift.com. They pay $450/week training, tuition reimbursement, and rapid raises based on miles driven and driver quality.

sounds like a who's who of bottom feeders here.

Go talk to the local companies and see who's doing what.

Go down to the local truckstop for an afternoon and see who pulls in and out and then check out their company names.

There's more than a handful of companies.

If you are both that driven, you should be able to find a local O/O with a small fleet of 5-20 trucks that will take you both on, solo or team.
