I agree with a poster: get the state CDL study guide. This is Step 1.
Step 2: Break the study material down in to small pieces instead of trying to gulp it down in one swallow. Just learn about the fifth wheel for a few days. If you have no one else to help you study, try to write down what the bood said; say it out loud.
Step 3: Learn a different part of the test , say, braking distance. After a few days, learn another part. This is how I had to struggle through my pre-trip.
In approximately one month, you should be there. -
Look, I don't want to come across as an ###### here, but have ALL standards for being a trucker been thrown out?
One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to be a truck driver, but if someone is having extreme difficulty getting a student permit, maybe, just maybe, they are not cut out to drive a truck. It goes beyond just being able to get the truck down the road without running down Little Suzy.
Say this guy does get his permit, and then his CDL, then gets hired to push 80,000 pounds of rubber and steel down the road at 65-75 mph, will he know enough to pull his truck up when finished fueling? (Pet peeve of mine, LOL) -
My sentiments, exactly. If he can't figure out, on his own, to go to the DMV, the agency that happens to issue driver's licenses, to get a simple manual to read, do you really want him on the road? I certainly don't. We have enough idiots that have no igea of what they're doing. We certainly don't need more.

There are many other companies out of Florida that will hire newbies. Here are just a few..... Central Refrigerated, Swift, Knight, Stevens, Armellini, Crete, Windy Hill, NFI, WEL, US Xpress, Robert Bearden, Davis, and many others. Make sure to try Craigslist and also here is a site that will help you find some of the smaller companies...

If you cannot retain the information to get the permit.. you probably shouldn't be involving yourself in hauling hazmat. Practically anyone get take the test enough times to get a permit. The permit and even the endorsement is a friggen joke!!! It teaches you nothing about what you need to know and what a driver SHOULD know to haul hazmat.. this isn't some joke!
-
Don't plan on getting hazmat yet. It is very dangerous to operate.

Trucking can be for anybody. But first you have to know and learn. Almost anybody can be a truck driver if they put their mind and focus good. I dont think driving a truck can be that hard I mean there is a lot of truck drivers. Some are slower than the other and some learn quick. I think driving a truck is easy even though I never been in one. Besides many drivers with experience still have accidents and skid on snows all the time.

Tseting is not that important. Its about the school and training where everyone learn from. Back in the old days there was no CDL testing to get a permit. How did those drivers learn?
