Thanks for your thoughtful reply FlyingM.
Well, I'm not sure how experienced this recruiter is. Of course with my own inexperience, I'm still learning all the questions to even ask. Thank God for forums such as this one where we have the opportunity to get the straight scoop from those in the ranks. What surprises me about this recruiter is, apparently she is underselling the gig. And most of the recruiters I've spoken to from the different companies have been at least a little on the pushy side.
Again, at this point I was comparing Epes to Roehl. Obviously, Roehl's 8 day 'Phase One' is more than filling out paperwork. I have to assume it's taking training to the next level. I guess each company does it different. So no, can't imagine spending even 3 days filling out paperwork. Regarding the school I attended, they claim to be the largest driving school in Virginia...but quite honestly, they basically "teach to the (DMV) test". I'm fortunate that I drove locally on an R Model Mack pulling a flatbed trailer in the late '70's. It was prior to CDL's and I was merely self-taught. Long time ago...many bad habits, I'm sure. I noted that as many as half the driving school students failed on their first attempt at the DMV road test with the state examiner. I saw one fellow require 6 attempts. (I believe state regs required an additional 80 hours of instruction after 3 failed attempts.) I was fortunate to pass on my first attempt.
Whoa there, "second tier" was a compliment..that was supposed to mean a cut above the rest! First tier being ground level and second tier going UP on the quality scale.
You'll have to admit (if you are willing to accept that I am telling you the truth, as best as I remember and noted, what the recruiter SAID) that this particular recruiter probably did not sell the company as well as she could have. Again, I am grateful for this forum. It's just that we usually go to it to temper what recruiters tell us. This time it has served the purpose of (pleasantly) expanding upon and positively adding to what they have said!
Thanks again! Epes is looking better all the time!!!

Hahaha we just have our interpretation of levels reversed lol in my background coming from aviation, the 2nd tier companies were always the 'second choice'. The ones lower than that were 3rd and so on....we just come at it from different directions
Nottoway Thanks this. -
I wanted to give Epes a call today because I'm having trouble submitting my application online because of submitting it over a month ago. I guess the software isn't coded for you to be able to go back start over after it's already submitted. Anyway, I spent all day in the truck on the road and didn't have cell service for most of the day. We were out in the boone docs. I'll try again tomorrow so I can get this dang thing in and get a pre-hire! Will be nice having that taken care of!!
Tic Tic Tic...gettin close to be finished with school and ready to get on the road!!! -

dinky, you don't have to look for them. They will find you!!!. One night while your deep asleep you'll get a loud bang on your door. You'll unzip your curtain to revel a nasty 3 toothed, cross eyed, 85lb scank standing on your truck step wanting to know if you want some sugar. What a life. Front door service!
