    lol i only pass prime trucks twice. once on the way to the customer, and again at the gate as i am leaving and they're checking in!

    if you seen a prime truck doing 62 it must have been one of their faster ones, i have been finding prime trucks running 54-55 mph in indiana lately

    OMG what happen? I have a problem with them taking money from my husbands check (Genral Health insuranc) and he did not authorize it. They do not want to reinburse him. then I found out there are several others who are having the same issue. I know some one who is leasing through prime he said they are taking more than the 30% that they stated.

    So, is it better just to work for Prime instead of leasing? If someone were to lease, how long should they drive for Prime before making a big commitment of 160k bill?

    I am trying to understand as much as I can about Prime, my husband has been there for 7 months. He tells me a few stories here and there. One thing I have heard him say and experience himself is taking money for things unauthorized and not reimbursing them. He was considering moving on too. But what are the other options?

    As for me, I am here to learn. I do not have personal experience as a truck driver, but I have good communication with my husband and some other drivers. I'm not quit sure why anyone would want to "make up" things. But, I am interested in hearing from others who are either truckers or significant others of truckers. Just so happens Prime is the chosen company and I am curious about the bureaucracy. How there system works, policy and procedures etc. I hope the wives or (husbands of female truckers) can be beneficial and are not bashed for their opinions, statements and concerns because they want to understand the trucking culture and the pro's and con's of the industry in general.

    We do that in reverse... so you just think you're passing us! In reality we've already been there, and we're passing you... LOL!!!

    Company trucks are limited at 62, and lease at 65. What you're seeing is a concerted effort to keep the fuel bill down. I was paying $4.50 per gallon out on the west coast this week - that's in the neighborhood of the prices that forced thousands of medium to small carriers out of business a few years ago. The quickest way to cut the fuel bill... slow down. You might want to consider doing that yourself, if you want to help keep your carrier in business.

    Mistakes do happen, but it's the first time I've ever heard of folks having trouble with HR and the medical insurance. Could it be that your hubby checked the wrong box on his orientation paperwork? Generally, they don't do changes in medical options until May. You're probably stuck on this - having the insurance means you've "consumed" the product whether you used it or not.

    30% of what?

    Depends. I usually suggest that folks run a year or two on the company side to get a feel for the business, and the carrier, especially for someone who has no experience in trucking. Also, if you're going to lease, understand that it's not employment on steriods. You're starting a small business, and that means you're responsible for the costs and risks associated with that. So many folks don't understand this, and its a major reason why folks fail. You must have enough cash in the bank to act as a financial reserve to make it work - if you start out broke with lots of personal bills, you're headed for disaster.

    Please! That doesn't generally happen. Its usually the case that folks don't understand what they're responsible for, and then have a fit when something is deducted from their settlement. As a company employee, anything that you pay for can be reimbursed if you submit the receipts and properly document it. Sometimes payroll does miss things - anything you feel that wasn't properly reimbursed should be pointed out to your husbands FM. They're the first place you should go when something slips through. In over 5 years, I've never had a fiancial problem that hasn't been handled to my satisfaction.

    If your husband is leasing, there are expenses he's responsible for that aren't reimbursable. For example scale tickets are something that company drivers are reimbursed for, but are on a lease operators ticket.

    Why don't you pick one of the threads in the Prime folder... that's where most of us post, and its a more positive environment for learning about our carrier that the "Bad Trucking Company" folder.
