To give a little history, I have had 3 passions in myintoe; the military, truck driving and owning/running a business. Well, I served 8-eight years in the Navy, and was paid $14k to separate in 1991. I went to Bradford-Union vo-tech truck driving school after the Navy, and went to work at Silver Eagle for a short period, but my our daughter had a baby at 16 and the wife was not happy with OTR lifestyle.....so i got into auto collections and finance business for next 15-years with 8 of those years as the general manager until the owner retired, company closed, and paid $20k severance. I drove a short stint with a Prime owner-operator in 2008 as his 2nd seat driver, and worked at our local port part-time supervising loading cars, heavy trucks and equipment on outbound ships. Then I tried to re-enter tne finance business but just see myself in that field for another 10 or 15 years. In 2010, I re-trained at Roadmaster in Jax, FL and went to Werner until 03/2011. Enjoyed the job, but had some personal family issues that needed attention so I left the road and reentered the sales force (presently selling security systems over the phone), which can be profitable some months just not a passion of mine anymore being tied to a cubicle, phone, and a metric system of micro-managing.
So on October 17, 2012, I head to orientation at US Xpress, Tunnel Hill, GA. I have enjoyed reading many of your posts over the last year. And I am looking forward to this new journey to continue my learning and increase my experience. Fortunately, we only have a small mortgage left on our home, no car or credit payments so I do not feel the heavy debt burden as many do in this economy. I believe a good attitude along with a great deal of flexibility will anyone wonders in this business.
Always willing to listen to any positive advice, not into much negative criticism as I can do enough myself when looking in the mirror on a daily basis. My grandmother always told me to keep my mouth shut if I did not have something good to say, which has served me well

Arnold Transport also offered position. I am aware they are owned 100% by USX, but understand they are more regional than USX. Plus, their main terminal is in my hometown of Jacksonville, Fl. And they do not have a sliding pay scale. Will give this some thought.

best of luck, arnold drivers seem to be happy

Thank Craig for your input. I am wondering if average weekly mileage will be more, less or about the same with Arnold versus US Xpress since Arnold is more of a regional carrier?
-
Arnold will be alot better for a JAX resident, I think.
-
Appreciate that vote, as I am leaning the same.

Miles will always depend on your Fleet Manager. Build a relationship

Welcome aboard shipmate. I retired from the Navy last year. USX has been great so far. Hope it keeps up.

Good luck to you!! Thanks for your service, too, my fellow veteran.
