Well here we go. I am wanting to drive OTR or work in the oilfield where I live in Texas... The job I have now is just not paying the bills. I have been driving a garbage truck for a municipality for about a year so I have one year of class b experience. I actually got my class A by taking the dps road test in a automatic dump truck connected to a pintle hook bigtex trailer... Lol so I cheated big time in getting my class A... I have my tanker and hazmat already and I want to drive tankers.... Only problem is.. I don't know how to drive a 10 speed or 12s or 18s.... And I have zero tractor trailer exp and I never attended trucking school.... And I have a dot preventable accident that's 3 years old.... I would just like to hear some experienced truckers advice on what I can do to get hired by a company driving tankers? Is there anyone that will train me or do I need to attend school? Will my accident mess me up? Oh and I'm only 22.... Anyways I'd appreciate any positive encouraging constructive advice... Thanks
My story and situation.. Please help? Class B driver looking for A jobs....

You need to go to school. You're not qualified to drive. You have zero experience with a standard truck. A pintle trailer on a dump truck is not the same as a trailer on a semi tractor.

You will not be able to pass a company road test for a tractor trailer driver if you can't drive one. School time for you.

You will need to learn how to drive a 10 speed transmission. If you know someone who owns a truck they might be willing to train you, but unless you have actual experience with an 18 wheeler it may be a little difficult. Since you already have your class A, you may want to get a job with one of the training carriers such as Swift, Werner, Millis, Roehl or CRST. They might be willing to train you since you already have your CDL. However, you will need to go with a trainer from a few weeks to a few months and give the company about a year of your work unless you want to pay for school. If you go with one of these carriers and leave before you have completed your employment contract, you will be liable for the entire amount of your training. That means that you will owe several thousands of dollars. An alternative would be to check to see if there is a state vocational school that offers driver training or a private school near you. In either of those cases you will be responsible for paying for your training. The state school will be less expensive but take longer to complete.

also..is your license restricted to automatics only?

Schneider is a starter company and they have a tanker division. But I don't know even though you have your class A without zero exp you may still have to go to school. But that preventable accident could hurt you depending how severe it is.

No there are no restrictions. I am licensed to drive everything. I just don't know how to drive everything. I'll probably. End up going to school. I was thinking about trying to drive a b vehicle In the oilfield and hopefully work my way into a saltwater rig... But even there tellin me they want oilfield exp..... Shneiders one of my top picks for when I get out of school because of there tanker division. But the recruiter is tellin me it might be hard to hire me because of my personal vehicle accident from 09..... So Idk what I'm gonna do
