    funny stuff.... hahahahahahaha....
Well, ... I shall not fear.. because I FINALLY signed on with SWIFT... after weighing all my options: one year the cdl is paid up, you gotta start somewhere and the workers are reasonably happy/miserable there... it also helps, the amount of terminals and that they do more than just refrigerated...
Good thing is I have been coming to TTR long enough to be pretty comfortable with my choice

    WoW!
    Has it been that long?
ThanX for bringing the Rollin' Thunder/Billy threads back. I consider them to be timeless classics. Of all the threads I've posted in here and other Big truck related websites, Billy's threads rate high on my all time favorites list for both educational and entertainment contents.

This will be a test of my aging memory but I think it'll be pretty accurate. I'm ready if you are, so let's get started.

    Is Billy still alive?
I certainly hope so. I think as long as The Trucker's Report is alive, Billy will always be alive.
How long did Billy stay with C.R. England?
The time frame can easily be measured in days, or even hours. Suffice to say not very long. He made it through orientation and entered the training phase excited at the prospect of becoming a Big truck truck driver. His driver trainer quickly extinguished his burning desire by yelling and belittling him which shook his confidence. When he announced to the powers that be CRE that he had absolutely no interest or intent to become a lease operator he was told to pack up his belongings and ushered to a waiting van and was whisked away, dropped off at night at a phone booth in a deserted area near the Salt Lick, Utah facility. The weather was cold with snow on the ground, --- left to fend for himself.

Prior to leaving for the C.R.E. Adventure, Billy asked many questions and received as many answers, mostly warning him of what he could expect there. Advising him to reconsider proved to be useless because he was convinced that his desire to succeed and a positive attitude would be enough to impress the Sons-0-Chester positively and they'd be anxious to hire him. That and some encouragement from Grandma Debi, who had gone through training a few weeks before his arrival and managed to latch onto a gentleman named Virgil who was in the same class and went with the lease deal, --- and put Grandma Debi on as second seat. We never actually heard from Virgil, but based on what we heard from her, Virgil was the un-sung hero who qualified for sainthood.

    To be continued, ----------------

What's with CRE only using company drivers in dedicated fleets now? I applied for the Coke dedicated and was told no IC's, only company drivers now. That is the norm for a lot of dedicated fleets now. It seems CRE treats its company drivers better than its IC's. Just venting...

    Continued, ...... as promised, ---- but, ...............

With a slight change of plans.
    Lemmie 'splain, .............

While I was gone, I was re-readin' this whole thread from the beginnin', again. I realize there are those who think old threads aren't worth takin' the time to read, but I disagree. Here's why, --- and this thread is an excellent example,--- what Billy told us he encountered at C.R. England around 4 years ago when Billy/Rolling Thunder started this very thread, had already been described in detail, --- many times, --- by those who'd already experienced the CRE MisAdventure years prior to Rolling Thunder's ordeal, are still bein' said today. The exact same complaints. If anything has changed, it hasn't been for the better. Just the fact the shady practices continue in spite of the numerous court cases filed against the Sons-0-Chester should be a red flag for anyone considering applying there.
Unless, ............. the truth is considered to be "bashing" and "negativity", --- something to ignore so as not to be confused by the facts, and, as a matter of fact, I didn't use the word "facts" loosely.

How many times have we heard?, ......................
"But C.R. England is the only company that'll give me a chance, and I need to make some money fast to feed my family".
"All Big truck truckin' companies are the same, so it doesn't matter which one y'all start with".
"I gotta start SOMEwhere, and CRE is the only company that'll give me a chance, so I have no choice".
"Every Big truck truckin' company has complainers, so don't pay any attention to those whiners".
    Yada, Yada, Yada.

    I say, ..............................
    :director2::director:~~~~BOVINE EXCREMENT!!!
For those who choose to believe that, be advised, what I'm about to say will be considered by some to be that of a person with a negative attitude who takes pleasure in "bashing" this company unfairly. That I'm a "disgruntled" former Big truck truck driver who couldn't handle the program so now I'm bitter and mean spirited and spew hate for those who want to try to succeed where I failed, ..... so be it.
Y'all can believe that the Sons-0-Chester hire applicants to "give the applicant a chance", ..... so be it.
If y'all wanna believe that CRE is the only choice, ignoring at least one other "choice", which would be to decline the offer, ..... so be it.
If y'all wanna believe that all the Big truck truckin' companies are the same so it makes no difference which one y'all start with, ..... so be it.
If, when y'all close your eyes and try to imagine what I am,
    and conjure up this --->
    :naka:
    Instead of this -----> :glasses6:
    So be it.

For the record, Rolling Thunder, .... Billy, ..... remember him?, the guy who started this thread around 4 years ago to learn something? The same Billy who, when presented with what he sought, put me on "IGNORE", referred to me as a "Washed out has-been" and a "moron", --- along with his flip-floppin' friend Ma Monster, who couldn't seem to decide which side of the fence he was on, ..... the very same Billy who went from posting about C.R. England in the Good Companies threads to the Bad Company threads in a matter of mere weeks, ....... actually apologized to me in a PM and admitted that what I'd suggested that angered him when he asked what important things he should be sure to take to orientation with him, which, as it turned out, he'd actually done, and was glad he did, --- my suggestion being to have a round trip airplane ticket to ride back to where he started if/when/in case things went as we'd predicted.

As most who ignore advice gleaned here and let CRE "give them a chance", promising to keep us informed, start out praising CRE with only a couple of days experience there, ---- then, --- just like that, --- *poof* --- they just disappear as though they dropped off the edge of the Earth, --- never to be heard from again, .... one way or the other. Knowing how badly they wanted to say, "I told you so. They're a great company", it seems odd that if everything was goin' good that they'd miss the opportunity to tell us so. Their silence is deafening.
SOMEtimes we say more when we say nothin' at all.
    But not Billy.
To his credit, he let me know that he knew he'd made a mistake or two, and set the record straight. I think that was a stand-up thing to do and I doubt it was easy for him. I respect him for that, and the record of events his adventure produced for others to read for themselves, ---- a first-hand, play by play educational trip through reality that others can learn from, or choose to file under "Disgruntled wash outs whinin' and wallowin' in self pity", --- their choice.

It amazes me how many come here for answers and/or advice when what they really seek is only what they wanna hear and disregard the rest, --- shoot the messenger and ignore the message. They hear a thousand bad reports and choose to go with the first positive report from someone an experienced Big truck truck driver recognizes to be a shill for the company.
    Go figure.
    :???:

And/Or, when the truth is presented matter-of-factly, without the sugar coating, ...................
"I know it's the truth, ... but he didn't say it they way I wanted to hear it, --- so what else could I do 'cept ignore it"?
    :banghead::smt108
"If they had just said it the way I wanted to hear it, ......................" :smt107
See, ...... it's logic like that us "morons" can't seem to understand. :dontknow: :smt017

As I re-read this thread from start to where we are now, --- thoroughly entertained all the way, by the way, --- I was reminded of those who join a stimulating conversation already in progress, without taking the time to read from the start to get up to speed. Instead they usually miss the point entirely and base their replies and/or comments on their own misunderstanding, which amounts to useless.

Case in point, Rolling Thunder had gone from good reports to bad reports relating to his own personal experience, includin' bein' kicked to the curb and left in a deserted area at a phone booth, at night, when snow was on the ground, to fend for himself. If Billy hadn't purchased a round trip air fare, and instead rode the bus with a ticket provided by the Sons-0-Chester, (and like many who sign up for training, only have a few bucks to their name and a family to support 1,500 + miles away), what would his options have been?
Yet we read johnny-come-(too)-lately offerin' encouragement with reassurances that things'll turn out just fine, and remind him to ignore those negative attitudes tryin' to talk him out of what he wanted to do. "It's his decision to make" we're reminded.
No argument there from me on that.
But the story for Rolling Thunder came to an end four years ago.
Had they bothered to read all of the posts up to the point where they entered the conversation with irrelevant nonsense, perhaps they'd realize how ridiculous that makes them appear, --- goin' off half-####ed.

    However, ..................
When predictions are accurate, as they were in this case, ..... (again), ..... where are those with the "positive good attitudes" who were, ......... well, .......... for want of a better word, ........ wrong? Notice how many step up to the plate and admit it?
Apparently the truth hurts and pretending it didn't happen makes 'em feel better.
So much for credibility from then on.

Which leads to the importance of seein' the BIG Picture, .............
and another continuance, ------------------- But, ..............................

I'll leave y'all with what RizenPhoenix cleverly wrote concerning a portion of what the BIG picture reveals when viewed from a better vantage point, --- with an open mind in search of reasons why reality is what it is, and not too likely to change for the better any time soon, --- if ever.

    Enjoy, ....................................

    To Be Continued,
    Unless
    Y'all yell "UNCLE"
    In Time To Stop Me.
    But, Even Then,
    It All Depends
On How I Feel At That Time.

    :glasses6: Or :naka:

This is my experience, as a second seat on an ic truck during training my dm actually cussed at me for having the audacity of calling her. Our lease truck had an idle timer, no trolley brake, 8speed, etc.

Now as a dedicated company driver I can call if I want to and even see them in person without going thru metal detectors, they are also in my time zone, and I have no idle timer, 65 governed speed vs 62, trolley brake, 10 speed, etc.... Everything is different and better as a dedicated driver, but I still couldn't in good conscience recommend any position in this company, it works well for me for a variety of specfic circumstances.

    :biggrin_2551:I'm AfterShocked Dewey!
    Almost speechless.
    C.R.E. does an about-face?
I'm goin' out on a limb here, but I'm thinkin' there must be more profit involved by payin' rookie wages to company drivers instead of shellin' out the Big Bucks to the elite fleet lease operators. You guys are just makin' too much money. That'll only get'cha into bein' lazy. What about your work ethics? Before ya know it, you'll be hangin' out in Big truck truck stops, wasting time playin' on the internet with your computer.
    Hmmmmmmm --------
Now that I wrote that, and read it, .......... it don't sound that bad.
MAYbe I oughta slip through those revolvin' entrance doors and dazzle 'em ------------ with my stellar ethics and superb time wastin' abilities. I'd impress those Sons-0-Chester like nobody ever has.

    Awwww, ----- whom'I kiddin'?
With my dad-burned luck all the other Big truck truckin' companies would accept me and C.R.E. would be the only one to reject my application, --- Over Qualified.
So, ..... are you contemplatin' puttin' a newBee rookie in the driver's seat of your lease Big truck and goin' back to drivin' a company Big truck?
    Wouldn't that be somethin?
If anyone asks you why U doo dat, tell 'em that the I/C boss you were workin' for was a tyrant of epic proportions and you knew if you stayed thar, you'd only wind up givin' the boss a piece of your mind. Come to some sorta understandin'. Get it in writin'.
    Just sayin', ............
    Hmmmmmm ------
What's the name of one of those C.E.O. dude's who just recently became a Chairman over at the A.T.A.?
    Might be British, or sumthin'.

Certainly doesn't seem to lack in the influence inventory department.
If that dude I'm thinkin' 'bout made a proposal, and it went to a vote of the member BigBIG truck truckin' companies head Honchos , ..... say 'round --- 6 all totaled. One vote each, win by simple majority. In case of a tie, the chairdude would cast a seventh vote.

    :biggrin_25521:WoaH!
    A thought just hit me.
Not that this could ever happen, ..... but what if, ---- that chairdude had a whole buncha influence on those other voters, you know, like they were family or sumthin', --- all or most of 'em with a vote that's bound to go to the chair at the head of the table of contents. The Board could adjourn early and still catch nine rounds before 5:00.
It'd be soo much easier to git-er-dun without opposition.
    Ya reckon.
    But, ...... I digress, -------------

Ballots are contained within a white envelope propped-up by a lone silver pepper shaker in a rack on a cobbled silver tray datin' back to the daze when Chet 'n Maude was growin' up 'an fallin' in love. Ol'Maude would gaze at Chet an' see a simple man with a simple plan to compete for goddumn and hope the title gets past the word filter. Chet, on the other hand, had only to see Maude's reflection and he just wanted to keep on truckin'.
Then along come the kids, born with iced diesel runnin' through their veins and three arms, .... 'cause they was still runnin' them twin-shifter duplex transmissions, --- 5 x 3 with the top two over driven to the rear gears goin' 'round 3.50's behind a 2-stroke Gimmy. Wind 'er up -- bump the governor, .... and shift. BotH hands, thas rite,............
    I digressed again.
    Sorrie, mah bad.

Can y'all imagine what kinda powah bein' the Head-0-(all)-D-Honchos in the Big truck truckin' industry would command?
If there were any ruthless companies out thar with cash on hand to buy up the smaller Big truck truckin' companies goin' under 'cause MegAMacK Truckin' under-cuts the rates below break-even. Along with said truckin' companies comes their customer base. Pick up several such truckin' companies and put a puppet C.E.O. in the chair at the head of the table at those companies, ....... a brother, cousins, even long time family friends would do fine. As long as they understood hoo-da-man-B.
    CEO proposes,
Uncle Rodney votes in favor, ----
    Budda-Bing --- Budda-Bong.
    A unanimous decision.
    The sons rise.
Learn the finer points on how to exploit good work ethics to the maximum.
    And master smoke & mirrorism.
But the hardest by far and the most important by another mile, was to be skilled enough in the fine art of selling.
ANYthing, that can be sold, ...... like porn, ......
    to a nun.
HeY! Recruiters can do it with a smile, easily --- not even break a sweat.
Top Brass is even better, --- they gotta register their tongues as weapons, I hear.
Or, ...... did I read that?
    Airplanes sky-writin' it?
    Hmmmmmmm, ----
Stall wall at the T/A east?
On a trailer door, written in the mud just above "Wash Me"?

    Memory, ......
    Second thang to go
    don't'cha know.

But ain't nuthin' 'bout my imagination
that's gone very far. Or too close to normal.

By Golly Dewey, if you got a pent-up rant a-brewin', this here is a better place to let-er-loose than out thar on the highways and byways in bumper-to-bumper Highway 91 rude traffic. I swear, --- a lot, --- but those bumper huggers know more dirty words than me. Besides, y'all ain't heard nuthin' 'till you get cussed out by some wild New Yorker with a Brooklyn accent. The way they say "ScummBag" sends chills all over my body.
    BaBa-Booie!

I hope your day looks brighter amigo, and your mood subsides to mildly irritated. Too much stress ain't good for ya. And for sure we don't wanna loose such a likeable guy.
    Yes you.
    Don't Worry --- Be Happy.
