What do you do for transportation when you're out of hours or stuck at a receiver and can't move your rig? Say you need to do laundry, shop for groceries, see a movie? Do you call a cab, rent a car, walk or have a bike?

I have been thinking about this and thought about adding a scooter. You can find them online for less than a thousand and I'm sure they wouldn't take up much room.

    your thoughts?

If I run out of hours at a shipper/receiver I move to the nearest TS. Resets I try to plan where to stop. Shopping I do in route to my next stop.

:yes2557: ok here the drill for most place's i been too , it depends on what you have on for a load, most place's want the the driver too sit there, in case there a problem, then the driver can call dispatch if need be, but for the most part, a good lap top, things you would do at home ,apply the same in the truck, if you play game's on face book get the lap top out, just think out of the box, try and shop before the trip, just think like your going on long camping trip , then plan it out , what kind of foods you like too eat and i found out after buying my super vacuum sealer from wall-mart and meat slicer from younker's dept store , they both paid off them self in a month, what i do is go too sam club and buy in bulk then i take it home slice up my meat for sandwiches, then i threw it in the food sealer then the freezer, then when i getting ready too leave out out i grab en fill my cooler, i also do my eggs this way for breakfast , i scramble em up on the stove , let cool completely , spread a little paperkia on em slide em my food saver bag , seal then toss in freezer too , then when i want breakfast i just toss in microwave works great and saving ton's of money this way.but if rec says your not needed , then just go for a walk , walking good for weight loss and for the heart , thats what i do and work out with my weights , :yes2557: as for a scooter , you have too weigh the pro's and con's on this ,it will add weight too my load, causing you go over on the drive's and can you make up the difference , that the question there is weight issues on a scooter.:yes2557:

If you drive for a decent carrier and aren't loaded you get permission from the truckstop to drop your trailer and you bobtail PC . It would be suicidal to ride a scooter around truckstops .

There are several options for getting around. As RickG said, some companies allow you to bobtail (even with elogs, there is often a provision for off duty driving.) In large cities, taking a bus is a cheap option. Taxis are also an option, but tend to be much more expensive. I carried a folding bike in the truck with me, and for short distances, walking is a good choice. The only time I used a rental car was for longer trips while on "hometime." Rentals were more expensive for me since I had to buy the insurance as well.

My advice is to wait and see about that scooter. Get out on the road for a while, then see how much you really want it. Keep in mind, anytime you want to use it you would have the hassle of getting it down, then putting it away again when you are done.
