Well I finally got a job offer. The catch is I have to run flatbed.
Some of you might remember my FFE thread, and the love affair cut short by family medical problems.
Questions:
1. Orientation housing. Is it double occupancy? (Ill pay extra for a single...)
2. Tarps at western. How heavy are they really? (I stopped weightlifting when Clinton was President!)
3. I have never pulled a skateboard, what the heck can I expect in general? (How different is it from van or reef)
4. What additional clothing should I invest in? (I would guess a good raincoat and some steel toe boots at least.)
Finally for the fleet guys out there, what is the general distribution of freight? (west coast vs east coast vs midwest vs southeast)
Please don't use this thread to bash or flame. I'd like this to be a serious information thread.
Thanks!
Going to Nashville!

I'll be in your shoes very shortly. Can't wait to see some of these questions answered. Luckily for me if it is doble occupancy, I'll just sleep at my house since I live in Nastyville.

Orientation........U get roomed w/another driver either orientation or seasoned company man waiting for truck repair/replacement at the Quality on Brick Church Rd. nr Trinity Ln off I 24/////////
Tarps are heavy.....need to start lifting weights again.....1st Day the different dept. heads will give a speech....& tell you what you're going to expect..............
2nd Day the flatbed drivers will be going over precedures for load securement of flatbed plus some tests incl one for Alabama Coil Certificate....3rd & 4th Day It's Load Securement when you go to the main terminal & practice securing your load & in between that Big Black named Robert will also have U doing numerous things while in yd such as inventoring equipment to resecuring an inbound load to helping a driver collecting the proper number of equipment needed for his/her rig to repairing torn & folding the tarp properly.
In between that those days in orientation U get free lunch (Basically it's Papa John's Pizza & breadsticks) unless it's an occassional Pulled Pork Sandwich........Yummy?????? Plus if U don't have a long sheet from ur previous job for the physical you'll have to do it again....and a basic driving/pre-trip test on a old worn out fleet truck (Be sure to have seat belts on when backing up trk & get out & look if ur not sure of the distance) the instructor is a old timer!
After that if U don't need a trainer U should be assigned a truck but pray U don't have to p/u the truck other than Nashville otherwise they'll wait till another driver comes to Nashville going your way.......Rarely they provide a bus ticket to the location & if U need a trainer when I left Nashville they had awaiting list of 25 people in waiting .......So Good Luck & say hello to Ms Tiffany at the Quality for me along w/Ms Cora who does the free breakfast as well!!! -
I get my gloves at Harbor's affiliate store Dollar General......Long Sleeves are also a must at most these stops as well & I forgot they supply hardhat safety vest & goggles!!!
-

Gee I hope U had a better days than me.....stuck in Phoenix....bad communication w/DM & rcvr is this what U want when U started w/Western? Funny we have'nt heard fm U since U said U finally going 2 orientation.....Bjnobear....now I get it da old crappy stereotyped misinformed TV shop w/da ape which was smarter than da star of said series...flatbed or van be prepared 2 b royally!!!
