Drtydiesel- I am trying to get into Reohl. Their starting pay is very high compared to other companies. I was wondering if they give good miles to actually pay well or is the high CPM just a trick they use to get people.

When I started in van I started at 30cpm. It is higher than most companies to start out with. I did get the miles and got a raise after my first three months. I was at 33cpm after 6 months and was making decent miles.
I make more miles in flatbed because I get longer runs. In van I got a lot of short runs but still made $500-600/week take home. It will tale about two months before you make bigger paychecks because their not going to push you as hard since your new. They want you to get comfortable with the life change. Because it will change the way you live, mainly your sleep cycles every now and then and stuff like that. Once you show them you can handle everything then you'll begin getting more miles. Unfortunately in winter freight slows down a bit. But don't get discouraged, in the spring it picks up darn well. Make sure you can manage your money and don't eat at truck stops every day like I do. I take home on average $800/week with flatbed but I'm spending $200/week on food at truck stops.

I am testing out at Roehl's Gary terminal tomorrow. I am happy with my decision to go with them. I learned a lot in the past 3 weeks and look forward to getting out on my own.
Airborne, Nottoway and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
I hope you new guys just going into Phase 3 will keep posting on this thread. It's very helpful for those of us making our final decision on who to go with.
I've delayed my decision due to a shoulder injury I incurred at home several weeks ago. Started physical therapy last week and also doing it twice a day on my on. Already seen great improvement and believe I'll be reasonably mended way before my 4 weeks of Rx are used up.
Thanks!Airborne and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Hope everything works out and hope your shoulder gets better!

Thanks DrtyDiesel! I've really enjoyed your posts. Although I'm a little older, I do consider myself in decent shape. This was a freak event. Wish the national flatbed companies that hire newbies, did so in my area, but most apparently don't on the east side of I-95 in Virginia. National van is all I find available. (With experience, there are any number of regional and local opportunities.)
Thanks again!Airborne Thanks this. -
No problem! Van might be only thing available right now but you can do what i did, after a few months it doesnt matter where you live, theyll put you in the division you wanna be in -
I will definitely keep posting as I continue my transition into the industry. I am pulling a flatbed and really like it, I am glad I decided go for it over a van. I really like the physical aspects of the job and the more challenging locations you are expected to get the truck in rather than just bumping docks.Airborne, Nottoway and DrtyDiesel Thank this.
