Just my opinion but when I am in an isolated area , especially parts of Canada, and it's going to be really cold out I don't shut down the engine. Anyone who has froze up will have the same opinion. I have the webasto bunk and engine heater but for safety's sake if your out bush on your own just leave it running. Beats dying in your sleep from hypothermia!
Using a converter to keep engine warm in isolated areas. can it be done?

A 1500W heater will trip the 1500W converter if a converter is even remotely similar to an inverter.
In TN all I need is my 500W oil pan heater. The coolant heater only gets plugged in below 20°F and the generator needs to run for either of those unless 110V AC is available nearby.
Obviously you are on a tight budget if you are thinking of running such a high watt device off of a PlaySkool inverter. You're best bet would be an El Cheapo gas gen at least 5000W because they are all overrated so in reality 4000W might trip the breaker on it. -
I want to thank all of you for your post, I live about 15 miles away from my parking area.
I figured it will cost me about $880.00 a year if I drop & drive it in for 2 months and just plug it in.
To me this makes more sense, no fire burning under the hood, and I might not even have to if temps are warm enough, but I know a lot more about it than when I started, very good ideas.
