Seeing that I'm planning on being solo sometime in Nov. I was wandering if there is a big drop in freight/runs in the winter months with Prime . How's the average drop in the mileage compared to the rest of the year? Or is there too many different things to factor into it , dm,location, truck, and division to even try to figure it out?

As a general rule, there is a slight to moderate slow-down in general freight movement during the first quarter of the year. By no means does that apply to every situation. Weather, the economy, your location, type of haul, etc. dictate the numbers. An individual driver will possibly a reduction in miles run, but usually not much. It just really depends on the particular scenario.
Do not let that influence your timing on starting.Start ASAP. Get used to downturns and up-swings in this proffesion. That's trucking.

For the SOLO driver, there is a slight increase in freight for those willing to run in the snow areas.

For teams, it's all gravy. Until the snow flies and the whining starts.

Teams ... Insert rant here....Cuz I know yer gonna.

Too true! Solo whining cannot get on your own nerves but team partner whining sure as Hell can!

Hey long_run, always remember that trucking is more about averages that individual days/loads. Ups and downs occur in regional markets, freight quantities and lengths of available runs. Weekly and monthly averages are what is important.

Like the others have said, it depends. January is usually slow, but it really varies - some years you're busier than heck. The best way to deal with it is to just set some money aside every year, so if things do really get slow it's there to cushion the blow!
