If you started your day at 2pm and drive until midnight. Do your hours reset at midnight? If so in theory you could drive 20 hours straight, no?
May be a stupid question.
what I have noticed when reading all the threads is everyone has a different opinion or take on the laws/rules. Is there a book one can buy that has all the laws in it so I don't take someone's word on something and end up getting screwed? -

Truck stops sell 'em, so does Amazon.
There's also FMCSA's website: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/rules-regulations.htm -
If you drove from 1400 to 2359 your first day on your 70 falls off at midnight, however it would do nothing for your for your 11 or 14.
Example you start at 1400 with 60 hours on your 70 and say 7 hours falling off on midnight. 1400-1415 fuel and pretrip. 1415-2000 driving. 2000-2030 drop and hook. 2030-0000 driving. Ok so at midnight you hit your 70 but as a new day starts you gain 7 hours. So you can drive to 0700....no. You have .75 hour line 4 and 9.25 hour on line 3. So you'd have until 0400 to drive 1.75 hours then shut down for your 10. So you continue to drive until 0145 and shut down. After your 10 ends at 1145 you have 5.25 useable for the rest of the day before you hit 70 again and have to wait till midnight again to get x amount of hours back.
I hope this is understand able.LaBubba Thanks this. -
it all makes sense after we learn how to make sense of it

I m no expert on this subject but I think some are confused on the 14 hour rule. Once you start your day mark 14 hours forward from your start time. No matter what you do in those 14 hours you cannot drive past that time. Unless you do 10 hours in the Berth. So logging coffee breaks or 2 hour rests do nothing for you. One can continue working past that 14 hour window but NOT driving. So whether you are driving, on duty, or off duty does not matter. The 14 hour clock does not stop. Correct me if I am wrong.

Bruce you are correct a 2 hour rest break does nothing for your 14 but it does keep 2 hours off your 70. Those 2 hours might help later in the week.
LaBubba Thanks this. -
Lol... You can you can drive whenever you want. It's the fines an the safety departments trying to lock you down man! Revolt! Drive twelve hours, work twenty, and have a 100 hour week. They can't stop us all!!!
