Elroy I-shift is far superior to Eaton auto, doubt these guys are talking about I-shift. As far as an '09 CAT with a DPF, if ever there was a money pit of a motor to avoid that would be it. Likely the worst DPF motor out there. Several members on here will attest to that fact. Hope you have deep pockets if you buy that 660 you're gonna need em.

    Elroythekid Thanks this.

Yep. I am lucky enough to have one of these CATs with SDP serial. DPF is holding together .. for now, truck gets an average of 5.5 mpg, that is in the east, pa, ny, that area, on flat the best it has ever done is 6.25. The dpf will be coming off as soon as I can afford the $5,000 bill to do it. The motor in it's current form is about as useful as a boat anchor. My biggest complaint is that it is inconsistent. About half the time now, I think it is the cooler weather, I get loads of power and 40 psi on the turbo. How it should work. I will be going up hill at a decent speed and it will choke it back right down to 20-25 psi. No clue why. Sucks being out in the hammer lane haulin it then it just craps. For now I am making lemonade. I would not buy another.

I'll also add this. When I bought it in sept 2011 it still has original dpf on it with about 475,000 miles on it. The thing was so plugged up I would be at full throttle, dragging ###, and getting 4 mpg. I was lucky enough to have my local CAT shop put a new dpf under warranty, and rebuilt the motor because it has a white mayonnaise like substance in the oil. I got very lucky. I basicly have a new engine in it now. All I had to pay for was the cylinder packs. I figure they did $35,000 worth of work and I paid $7,000. I could just as easily have lost the $35,000 I saved PLUS the cash I borrowed from the bank to buy it. It could of all been over in a few months.

So sorry to hear that cat, I was stuck with a bad Crapcadia, tho nowhere near those problems, I feel for ya for sure,

I find it amazing how ALL the manufacturers basically did their r&d on our backs, they sort of jab it right now, but none of them did from 08 to almost 2011.
    good luck in the future!

Its not just fuel you save. It's been proven the autos put less sshocks and strain on the drivetrain
and save you lots of bucks in clutches and drivetrain parts. My Volvo won't let you do anything stupid and shock the drivetrain or hurt the clutch.
