    Hello all....

Just curious... strickly speaking of time away from home, how much do most of you spend per month on the basics?
Groceries, comfort items, laundry, truck washing (do you even pay for that or does the company?)...

I completely understand that this will range fairly widely but considering I have absolutely no idea at all, it will give me that range.

I will not be starting off with much "stuff" to put in the truck the company provides (really nice fridge, microwave, inverter...).
But I have confidence that I will get there, and with that I also know that my grocery bill will go down since I won't be buying strickly for that one meal.

I want to be gone for quite a while at a time (30+) with little home time. So I'm just curious as to how much I will be spending (about...)

Keep in mind that I will be driving for one of the big companies (probably USX or Schneider) so I don't have a lease nor do I have truck payment/ insurance... etc.

    Thanks for any help here....

Get you a 12-V cooler and a 300 watt inverter. I work for Schneider and with going to walmart and stocking up, you can spend about $70/week or less depending on what you like to eat.

I spend $40 - $50 a week on groceries, probably another $5 - $10 on cleaning supplies toiletries etc... I have two twelve V Coolers, one for food and one for drinks that is within reach of the Drivers Seat, a microwave, George Foreman Grill, 12v Lunch box oven, Toaster, Egg Cooker, 12v Skillet, and a company installed inverter... I am luck there, but honestly, that 12v Oven kicks ###... I use it at least three days a week, and if I didn't have the microwave I would use it more to reheat things. It is a great investment for around $30.

You can live relatively cheap on the road if you budget well. for example, a pork loin in Walmart runs about $7, A bag of Salad runs around $2.50, they have these great little single serving packs of Corn, Peas, Carrots and such that kind of look like the small fruit cups in four packs for under $2, I get two meals out of a pork loin, four salads out of a bag, and one each for the veggies so I can eat a pretty decent dinner for just under $4. Lunch and breakfast come out a bit cheaper.

I toss the pork loin in the oven for around two hours, I drive while it is cooking and it sure makes the truck smell good too.

If you eat a meal a day just out of the truckstop you will spend.. avg of $12 a day.. if its 2 ..24.. and so on and so forth.. I spend about 25 to 60 a week.. but I eat of the cooler most of the time and I am home every weekend. I would say figure spending $100 a week that is a higher number but if you figure on that you will always have some cash in your pocket in case you need it..

If you get you an inverter a microwave and yes a cheap electric grill.. The george foreman works good.. don't let anyone tell you it doesn't for a trucker.. and a crock pot. (not a big one) Go to a Wal Mart at about 6 am one day a week and by there marked down meat.. You can normally find pot roast, steaks and pork marked down.. They don't mark chicken down ( I wouldn't cook chicken anyway it is a mess).. but you can get a pack of 3 thin ribeyes/tbones or strip for about 8 bucks.. and a the country crock mashed potatoes for 2.50 I think.. that is 3 meals right there.. a salad mix is 2.50 and that will last you for 4 or 5 days.. a good chuck roast on mark down is like 6.00 and that is 4lbs of meat potatoes and carrots are another 2.00 total.. Get a couple of cases of water for 2.99 a piece and you just spent like 35 dollars and can eat for 3 to 6 days. If you like tea or whatever I would also suggest getting you an coffee pot and make a couple of gallons at night when parked.. Just get a couple of gallons of water a kitchen funnel and make a gallon and put it back in the water jug.. Sweeten to what you like and roll on..

And yes that sounds like alot of crap to have in a truck, and you don't have to have it all in there.. When I was over the road it saved me about $90 a week in cokes(switched to tea) and resturant bills/tips.. Best of luck

Btw to answer your question without this crap.. about 150 to 200 yeah it is high, but these truckstops think you are made of gold and they have you over a barrel

Im hoping to get to that point pretty quickly. I know there are little things that I can do to help save but I don't have the experience so that's why I was asking. I really love this forum. People talk straight, good bad and ugly. That's what me and my husband want.
